Today...

You can find me over at Tiff's blog, The Coffeehouse sharing about these three loves of my life and how I think a dog has a perfect life.

"What's in a name?"

It has come to my attention that a certain breakfast dish goes by multiple different names.
This is the breakfast dish that I am referring to which my mom would frequently make growing up.

In my parent's household, this dish was called toad in the hole.
I have heard it called eggs in a basket and someone recently called it one-eyed gypsy.
If you know or eat this dish, what do you call it, inquiring minds want to know?
Ok not really, I just wanted to ask and what see sort of response I get.

If You Really Knew Me...

I liked the idea of If You Really Knew Me posts and had been tagged by a couple of people (Leeann, Stesha) so I thought I would add in my post. I'm not gonna make it very deep but more of a personal, get to know me more type of post.

So here it is:
If you really knew me, then you would know that I was born in Japan, and if I wanted to run for the Office of President of the U.S. of A. then I couldn't yet for two reasons, I am not 35 and also because if a US citizen is born outside of the United States, you have to have 14 years physical presence in the US before you run and I haven't hit that mark yet. How crazy?!

If you really knew me, you would know that growing up my brother and sister, both born in the US, teased me constantly that I would never return to the land of my birth. Little did they know the joke was on them! We moved back before I started high school.

If you really knew me then you would know that I was an Air Force brat, moving to another location every three years. Here are the places I lived in order from birth until I graduated from high school: Japan, Colorado, Kansas, back to Colorado, California, Japan.

If you really knew me, you would know that deep down I am a funny, goofy person and sometimes my quiet outer shell is what you get until I am really comfortable with you and I feel you won't judge my crazy, goofy nature.

If you really knew me, you would know that I drink a cup of coffee each morning with Coffeemate Creamer and I eat the same breakfast, yogurt and fresh fruit. Nothing is better.

If you really knew me, you would know how much I care about all of my friends and I think that distant is not a legitimate reason for friendships to end.

If you really knew me, you would know that my maiden name is Mouch and that it still weirds me out two years later to say my maiden name, gosh it makes me sound old. Oh and Mouch was never pronounced correctly ever in my entire life.

That's all folks!

That Feeling...

Tomorrow is the last day to enter my $75 Shabby Apple giveaway, go here to enter.
I just wanted to share with you today a few observations I have made lately about feelings. In general, I am a pretty stoic person, don't wear my emotions on my face but these are some thoughts or feelings I have had recently that I wanted to share with you all.

1. That feeling you get while with your husband you run into a former crush and you walk away feeling, wow why did I ever have a crush on him?

2. That feeling when talking to your grandma shortly after her husband, your grandpa, passed away and she says to you, it all went so fast. It all went so fast is the life she spent with him , married over 55 years, and the feeling you get that knowing that one lifetime isn't enough time to spend with your true love.

3. The feeling you get when your alarm clock goes off in the morning to wake up for a morning run. You really want to sleep in a bit more but you force yourself to get up and run. The feeling you get when you get back from your run and you say to yourself, yes I did it and I didn't allow myself to be lazy this morning.

4. That unfortunate feeling you get when you realize a friend was there for only a season of your life and not longer than you were thinking.

5. The feeling you get when you are going to eat bbq and you are really really excite because you love bbq and could live off of pulled pork sandwiches, brisket and beef ribs. Sean and I went out to Lucille's Smokehouse a few weeks ago and I was so giddy. I am all about the tomato-based bbq sauce, no vinegar based for this girl, thank you very much.Oh did I ever mention that I went vegetarian at one point in my life?

And just because I wanted to show you a few photos of my dahlias that I planted last year, thank goodness for annuals. Dahlias have a special place in my heart because they were used in our reception centerpieces.

That's all for today, just a simple post.

Oops Totally Missed It

I knew that I first started blogging in May of last year and I thought t was a bit later in May, turns out my blog turned 1 years old on May 17! How did I miss it!
I want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been apart of my blogging experience for the past year. I never knew what ind of joy it would provide, what type of friendships I would find and how this blog could be the outlet for the creativity element I was missing in my life.
From blogger meet-ups to bachelorette gossiping and giveaway fun this blog has helped provide some fun and creativity that I needed in my life.

Kit-kat Break

Sorry I actually don't have any Kit-kats to hand out to all of you and if I did, I would give you all plenty of Kit-kats because you all are so sweet for all you do for me and my little blog here.
No post today, just needed a bit of a break. However, Sunday I will be back with the May sponsorship post and then Monday a giveaway!
Stay tuned, have a wonderful weekend. This is the last long run I have in my training until the half marathon which is next Sunday, May 20.
Enjoy your weekend dear friends!

Shine and the weekend

*Thank you for your sweet words on my Friday post about being tired. Feeling a bit more refreshed, although I might make some changes here on the blog or even change up the content some to give me a burst of energy and creativity!! You guys are the best, seriously do you know that??
The past two Saturdays I have set my alarm at 6am to get up for plans early that morning and every time I heard that alarm go off, I thought to myself, why am I up this early? It is only for great reasons, of course, the Nordstrom cosmetic trend show and then this past Saturday, the Shine Project beach clean-up down in San Diego. That and meeting the fabulous Stesha of Classic and Bubbly along with some other blogger friends. I love the blogging community and how it brings people together for a cause or just make a connection between two people who might otherwise not meet.
So the beach clean-up down in Mission Beach, a two hour drive for me, I got my cup of coffee on my drive down there, enjoyed the songs that were blasting out of my radio and before I knew it, I was there. As I mentioned I finally met Stesha and of course I met Ashley of the Shine Project. Several other bloggers were there that I had met before (Amira, Magan, Tammy) and then some new blogger friends (Bonnie and Reannah). I think Bonnie's blog has become my newest favorite blog to find DIY projects and recipes. Check her blog out, you won't be disappointed.
We walked around Mission Beach for about 2 hours picking up the trash and trying to make the world a cleaner place. It was a slightly chilly morning, at times the sun was shining and it was just very enjoyable walking on the beach, watching people run, bike or skateboard on the sidewalk. Other groups were setting up for what look like a great day of playing beach volleyball. There were families there to enjoy playing in the ocean. There were plenty of smiles and laughter.
Enjoy the photos from the day!
When you get bloggers together, this is what you get, three THEIT bags.
Do you think this photo could be an advertisement?

I call this photo, hanging by a thread. It was a shirt literally hanging by a thread on the beach wall.
Just a few more...
 Bags filled with trash

The rest of my weekend was hanging out with girlfriends, which I won't complain at all. Husband was busy all weekend with a team fundraiser. After the beach clean-up, I saw my bff, Laura who I have known since 4th grade, and both of us are military brats who moved quite a bit, so the fact we are still friends all these years in a real testament to our friendship. I love these lifetime friendships where you pick back up right where you left off from the last time you hung out, no matter how long it has been since you last saw each other.

Yesterday morning, I went for a long run with my running partner, Sarah. On the trail we were on, we crossed paths with a deer, a bobcat and a bunny.
That was my weekend! Now tell me about yours.

Leap of Faith of this Leap Day

On this February 29, Leap Day, it is only appropriate that I write my post somewhat related to leap year so that is why I titled it Leap of Faith and ask you what leaps of faith have you taken in your life. Was it a new job you got which meant moving to a new location away from what you consider your comfort zone? Was it traveling to a new country with some friends or by yourself just to say you went there? Was it branching out and starting your own business?

Some leaps of faith I have taken in my own life are leaving my family when they lived in Japan to go to college in California,  to be that far away from my immediate family wasn't always fun. I had to grow up a little bit faster, take care of all my own business here, I couldn't call up my mom and have her make a doctor's appointment for me if I needed to go or whatever was needed.

A second leap of faith was deciding what job to take after I graduated from school. It meant staying here in California instead of going home to where my parents lived at the time in Tucson, AZ. A second leap of faith I took was going back to school for my Masters, which meant evening classes, two times a week, lots of homework on the weekends and overcoming that nagging thought of what if I can't handle it all. But I did an now I have my Masters in Public Administration and that confidence to know that I can handle it all?

*Update: I have a new leap of faith coming my way, I never mention my work on the blog but I will here now. I work for a Member of Congress and this morning he announced his retirement after serving 32 years, which means I have to be looking for a new job by the end of the year. This is entirely too scary for me...

So it is your turn, what leaps of faith have you taken in your life, did they turn out how you thought they would be and if not what did you learn from those leaps?
If you are on the edge of about to take that leap of faith, what is holding you back?
For your viewing pleasure images of leaps!
I am also linking up this post for Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday.

And just because it is Leap DAy, I have to post a photo of two people playing Leap Frog, I just have to!

I hope I am not going too deep for you all this week, I know this is not my usual type of posting but it is good to change it up every once in awhile, I assure you I am not going through anything serious in my life that I am contemplating a lot. I just use things around me like my pastor's sermon series and decided to expand upon them ie my post on Monday.
Happy Leap Day everyone!

Birthday Celebration - How My Man Makes Me Happy

How was your weekend ladies? Anyone have the day off today like me?
Can I get a woohoo for a three day weekend?
What did you do this weekend?
Also, who is going to this little meet-up??

SoCal Blogger Meet-Up
Because if you are, I will see you there!

On Friday, I couldn't wait to get home and change into my leggings and my Sean's oversized sweatshirt just to be comfy and relax. Anyone else need to have those on a Friday night?
Saturday was my birthday celebration and I knew absolutely nothing of the plans and boy was I surprised! All I was told by Sean was what type of attire I needed to wear for each activity.

First thing, Sean had planned for us to do is a bike ride to get breakfast. After my stomach was stuffed by pancakes and Sean's with stuffed french toast, we did a little house touring on our bikes. We like to ride our bikes through the neighborhoods near us just to look at homes and pick what we like and don't like each the homes. Then it was home to watch the Olympic trials marathon on TV and one of our friends was in the race and finished 28th! Oh on the way back from breakfast, Sean had us stop off at a grocery store and he allowed me to select any bouquet of flowers I wanted. My pick?
Thank you my love!

After we watched the race, Sean had the next surprise for me. We drove to downtown Los Angeles, which is about 30 minutes away and went ice-skating outdoors in Pershing Square. He definitely knows how to make me the most happy because I love ice-skating. When I was in 5th and 6th grade, I did some ice-skating competitions and always enjoy the opportunity I can to ice-skate now. Just a few photos from our ice-skating venture.

After ice-skating, we headed back home and I was told to dress up to go out. He took us to this Cuban restaurant and surprised me with 10 of our friends already there! It was a great evening and I couldn't have felt more loved by my husband for all that he did for me for my birthday. He did a terrific job and surprised me continually throughout the day.
Hope you, my fellow friends, felt loved by your family and friends.

Now for a few items of business. First the giveaway winners for the necklace and earrings. Ashley calculated the winner using random.org for the earrings from her Etsy shop and the winner was number 8, Michelle P  of Making Sense of Cents!
The winner for the Shabby Apple feather necklace is Melissa of After We Tied the Knott.
Congrats you two! I will get in touch with both of you.

This is Dedicated to You

Today's post is dedicated to you, my friends and followers. Earlier this year, in May, when I started my blog, I had no idea the amount of joy it would bring into my life through the comments and friendships that blossom along with each posting. As we are nearing the end of 2011, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart to you for letting me post about my interests, randomness and sometimes deeper thoughts. With your friendships, you have encouraged me to know that I am not some girl behind a desk at work, but a girl who loves to bake, do DIY crafts, and share with you the laughter in my life.
So with this, I sign off on 2011 and see you all in 2012 for even greater and deeper friendships!
