Happy Birthday Sean

Dear Sean,
Today you turn the wonderful age of 28, yup officially upper 20s.
You have brought so much joy into my life since we met almost 4 years ago and you continue to bring joy into my life daily. You are a great provider to your family, you are a wonderful husband and a great dad to our puppies. I love hearing those words you say when you walk into our home after a long day of work saying, "I'm home," and I feel inside me that everything is suppose to be as it should at that moment.
When I was praying for a husband, laughter and humor were at the very top of my list, after first you had to be a Christian. God definitely answered my request for laughter and humor.
You are silly, you are goofy, you are always making jokes. Just a few photos of the evidence of that.

You are a hard-worker, a devoted follower of God and a persistant individual.
I hope you have a terrific birthday celebrating with friends tonight and enjoy the peanut butter-chocolate pie I am making you (blog friend, recipe sure to follow).
I love you forever and always, your wife.

A Date to the Fair

The Los Angeles County fair is in town, a month long of fair fun-ness. I love the fair and for no particular reason. I don't go for the fried foods, I don't ride the rides and not because I am scared but I do go for two things: ice cream from Dr. Bob's and to look at the animals. Last Wednesday, Sean and I went on a hot date to the fair and it was a hot date because it is with my husband and why not!
The first year Sean and I were married and I took him to the fair, it was birthday concert tickets to Boys II Men and Sean didn't understand my love for the fair. He said the following year we would give ourself more time at the fair. The second year at the fair, he began to understand why I look forward to one evening in September for me to fulfill my annual quota of animals and Dr. Bob's ice cream. This year, we didn't give ourselves enough time to eat ice cream, view the animals and of course people watch ;-) So we will be going back for another evening before the fair closes this year.
Enjoy a few photos from our date at the fair.

The piglets were very activity when we were at their pen.

Fresh milk anyone?

Of course Dr. Bob's ice cream
I had a Mississippi mudpie ice cream on a cone and Sean had peach and vanilla bean.

We spent some time playing hangman.

And that was our hot date at the fair.

Feeding your marriage

Let's be realistic here today. Life is challenging, there is always something on your plate, something to deal with, take care, whatever it may be. There are chores to be done, dogs, laundry and cars to be washed, you may or may not have gone to the grocery store this week. There is always one last thing that needs to be done, lets for today put all of that aside and focus on your best friend, the man who asked you to marry him, to go through life with, lets nurture that relationship today with a few ideas, the chores still might need to be done later on but do they really matter?

1. write your husband an email telling him how much you love and why you love him
2. send him a text thanking him for all the wonderful qualities he brings into your life
3. type up a letter telling your husband what a great provider he is to your household, how much he takes care of his family and thank him for all the little things he does for you and maybe you haven't told him how much those little things mean
4. make him his favorite dinner
5. pack him a lunch so he doesn't have to decide what is for lunch today
6. bake him his favorite dessert whether it be cookies, brownies, pie, etc
7. plan a date for you two, it doesn't have to be fancy ask him to meet you for a drink right after work for happy hour, have a picnic on your living room floor
8. text him an address to a restaurant or somewhere else, tell him not to look up the address but use GPS to take him there and him meet you there at a certain time
9. surprise him by doing the chores that he does around the house,
10. love him even if he isn't exactly loveable at that moment
11. pray for him, pray for his work and pray for his leadership in your family
12. give him a foot rub or back massage or neck massage
13. whatever you do, just make sure your husband know he is your priority today and every day!

Date Night - Serving Others

Sean and I are trying to establish a more regular date night, yes we do have date nights but they are a bit scattered sometimes, or sometimes we forget to plan them.
So Mondays are our established date night, it can be whatever we want them to be. But we know that it is a time where it is just us two, to enjoy each other's company and to continue dating each other in marriage. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, our church is doing a real marriage series and Sunday's sermon was being friends in you marriage. Sean is designed to be my best friend throughout life. There is a great acronym using the word friends, and what each of those roles are in your marriage, which I will mention later.

For our date night last night, our church was having a backpack drive to help out children in our local school district so for our date night, we wanted to serve others.
After a dinner at home of slow cooker pot roast(recipe coming), we headed out out to Target oh and Lowes to buy some soil topper, all 10 bags of it. So if I smell a bit of manure the next few days that is because we drove in my car and the stench might linger.
Just a few snapshots of our date :-)

It was very enjoyable serving others together with my husband, it helps to re-establish that this life isn't about us, it is about God, His love for us and how He wants us to spread that love to others.
Ok now back to FRIENDS and what it spells out in a marriage according to the Bible.
F - fruitful
     R - reciprocal
 I - intimate
    E - enjoyable
N - needed
 D - devoted
     S - sanctifying
If you are married, how are you making sure your spouse is your best friend and if not what areas do you need to work on? And if you are not married yet, what are you doing today to prepare to be that best friend to your spouse?

Oh Pinteresting - Wedding Detail

Thank you for the sweet comments on our anniversary yesterday. I was so happy all day long!
I wanted to share a few details of our wedding today and I put all the photos up on Pinterest. The colors for our wedding were cranberry, golden yellow and cream, so from Sean's point of view, essentially they are USC colors, which he hates, he is a UCLA fan. Since we are both runners (him more seriously, me just recreationally), I decided to incorporate elements of running throughout. I won't mention how but let the photos tell the details.

*On a side note, Pinterest wasn't around when I was planning my wedding and I spent so much time trying to remember certain images I had seen and where I had seen them. Since Pinterest, I have seen so many cute images saying to myself, I wish I would have done this or that. However, looking over my wedding photos of all these details, I don't regret what elements I incorporated into Sean and I's wedding. I am really happy with our wedding and how we did things and I wouldn't change the elements we used either way, Pinterest or no Pinterest.
For my Oh Pinteresting Wednesday, details from my wedding 2 years ago.

This was my hair done by my awesome and talented hairstylist, Cheree.

This was my dress

These were my shoes

These are our rings

These were the flowers, the first bouquet was mine and the second were the bridesmaids.
My bouquet had orchids, lilies, mini roses and ranunculus.

Another view of the bridesmaids bouquet

For the aisle decoration, we did running shoes and sprinkled rose petals. We used brand new running shoes just in case you were wondering, I didn't want our guests to be sitting next to those shoes with their nose wrinkling at the stench.

For our reception, we named each of our tables after a major marathon. Sean wrote an informational card about the marathon that was on each table. We had tables like the London Marathon, Boston Marathon, etc.

These are some photos of the table assignments. I taped the cards to the thick yellow ribbon which were laid on top of a rose petals.

The gift we gave our guests was a package of coffee because Sean and I love coffee and our first date was at a coffee shop. The coffee was SLO(San Luis Obispo) Roast Coffee, which is from the area that Sean grew up. We got to pick the flavor of coffee, french vanilla, and give our brew a specific name.

Our reception centerpieces were monochromatic red vases and red dahlias and roses.

This was our cake and my sister made the cake topper with running bibs on the back Sean wearing 7 and me wearing 17 for our wedding date. She was very involved with the details on the topper.

And for our guests, red velvet cupcakes.

And yes those are chocolate running shoes on top of the cupcakes.

There you go! I didn't provide all photos from my wedding details so if you want to see a few more photos, check out my Pinterest board.

Happy 2nd Anniversary to the Man of My Dreams

First, the winner of my SkincareRX giveaway picked by random.org was Katrin, congrats girl!
 I'll contact you.
Sorry everyone, no Bachelorette re-cap today, why because I gave out my final rose already to my husband of 2 years ago today.
Well, Sean, today is our 2nd anniversary!
Two years already since we said our I dos, two years since I was standing there in a white (ok actually it was ivory) dress and you in your suit looking all dapper, two years since the pronouncement of Mr. and Mrs. Henning.

Two years of an adventure and what an adventure it has been, let's call it Sean and Meg's Excellent Adventure and using the analogy of an amusement park I'll continue describing our 2 years of marriage together. We handed over our not single anymore tickets when we checked into the marriage park on July 17, 2010. Our first stop was the honeymoon and like a carousel where you get on and are transformed into a new reality full of unicorns and happy music. Then shortly after our honeymoon we rode the Haunted Mansion when reality hit and we realized how fragile life is and how short it really can be. The next stop on our marriage-themed amusement park was the roller coaster with the ups and downs just like any other marriage. We had some highs and then we had some lows but it is because we were learning more about each other and learning how to be married to one other.
After getting off the roller coaster, we headed over to the ferris wheel, where the ride smooths out a bit, we are moving at a consistent and even speed and we get to slow down a bit. After the ferris wheel, we continued the sweetness with some cotton candy and caramel dipped apples and this is where we found ourselves 2 years later, more settled in, a gentle, even ride known as Mr. and Mrs. Henning. Where will this excellent adventure of ours take us? Only God knows and we leave it all up to Him to decide but I know that sometimes we might take a ride on that roller coaster at times. Then I know we can jump right back on that ferris wheel where things are steady and consistent and for sure we will be sharing some of that cotton candy and caramel apples sprinkled throughout all of this adventure of ours.

I love you and I am so happy that God brought us together. You make me laugh harder than anyone, you have been a great provider, you are a great encourager and I wouldn't want to be on this adventure with anyone else but you.

Happy Father's Day

This post is written to my dad.

The first man in my life, the one who helped raised me together with my mom. The one who I remember would come join me for lunch in the cafeteria when I was in elementary school. The one who always provided for his family and made us a priority all the time. The one who insisted our high school education be beyond what the school required us and was the example that education doesn't stop with a college degree. The one who made exercise a part of his daily life and set a great example for us to follow.
My dad definitely gave me and my siblings a wonderful childhood and I couldn't be more thankful for the lessons he and my mom taught us growing up.
He is the first man to have loved me and I couldn't be more thankful to have been born his daughter.
