Highlights of the Weekend

Yes I am aware it is Wednesday and I am only now doing a weekend re-cap but I had to highlight Elise's hometown of Rwanda for you yesterday and Sunday night I just couldn't pull it together to write up a post for you all for Monday.
I was feeling a bit moody this weekend since Labor Day is the signal that summer has officially come to an end, the weather might not have gotten the memo but the long day of summer, the pool parties and the bbqs will be put on hold until 2013.
However a Friday night picnic in front of the TV eating pizza and drinking water set the weekend off on a good note and maybe a small nap was included on the couch by Sean.
Then Saturday we had the wedding to attend and when I see a sushi food truck parked at the reception, my food-truck loving heart does a little happy dance.
I love the decor, the details and they definitely made sure us as guests had plenty to do with a game of corn hole set up and a photo booth set up.
I loved the white lights we ate our delicious sushi and yummy desserts from the dessert bar under!
The rest of the weekend went by super fast with church, making 4 batches of cinnamon rolls, cleaning and then hosting Sean's team over for breakfast on Monday morning. Sean took me on a Monday afternoon date concluded a great weekend with my main squeeze.

Wishing I Wore a Toga...

to a concert at the Greek Theatre.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and good wishes for my mom's surgery yesterday. Things turned out better than expected so the best outcome possible and I am looking forward to a few days of just hanging out in the Sonoran desert although it is a bit hot.

Los Angeles. Griffith Park. Greek Theatre. Gavin DeGraw. Colbie Caillat. That is what my Sunday night consisted of courtesy of a good friend of mine with an extra ticket and when she asked, I didn't hesitate with my answer.

After getting some advice from other bloggers, thanks Lauren and Leeann, to avoid parking in the venue's lot, we taxied our way up to the theatre, found our seats and were serenaded
by Justin Young, the opening act and checked out the surrounding areas and of course people watched.

Followed by the awesome Gavin DeGraw, who is very funny on stage.

and then finishing the night was the beautiful Colbie Caillat.

It was an awesome concert, Colbie came out and did a duet with Gavin during his set and he came out and song one of her songs with her during her set.
Hope you all are doing great, had a wonderful weekend so catch me up on what you did.

Malibizzle

Head over to Kyna's blog, great expectations for a feature on my key lime coconut bars.
I am definitely one person who lives for the weekend, for that chance to sleep in a little bit later, enjoy a second cup of coffee possibly,  and to thumb through the Sunday newspaper primarily to for the coupons. I like to plan out my weekends so by Sunday night, I don't end up asking myself what did I do this weekend with a let down following that question.

This weekend definitely was great, from Friday night with Sean to Saturday with bloggers in Malibu and to Sunday with Sean again, all I want to ask now is can I repeat my weekend?
As I mentioned on Saturday I met up with three other bloggers. Looking over my recent social calendar, I have hung out three weekends out of the last four with other bloggers who have become friends. And I definitely love it.

So on Saturday, I hung out with Leeann, Lauren of Wayferes and Worksheets and Kate of Nautical by Nature for some Malibu-ing. Leeann and I have hung out before and I looked forward to meeting Lauren and Kate. It was a lot of fun hanging out, all three of them are super sweet. And thanks to Lauren, I know now that Greek pottery have different shapes and different handles depending on the purpose of the jar.
We started out by having lunch at Duke's in Malibu and after lunch when we were taking photos of the ocean was when I realized I forgot the card for my camera. Who does that? Me is who would be by the ocean with all these gorgeous Malibu views and not being able to take photos.
Thank you Leeann for taking and sharing photos with me :-)

After lunch, we headed to the Getty Villa right off of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
As we were walking around the place, we were tempted by crafts known as Mummy Magic, getting to make and paint your own mummy coffin. With foil and strips of paper mache, my mummy coffin definitely didn't look like a coffin but we had a great time doing crafts and talking about how we would sell our mummy creations on Etsy for $50, any takers?

Sunday was Sean's day as he is leaving for 5 days and I wanted to soak in some husband time, although an 8 mile run was in order first. My running partner and I signed up for another half marathon in October. It was hot, it was humid but we managed to knock those 8 miles out. Sean and I went to church then did a bit of shopping then a picnic dinner while listening to the Sunday night concert in the park. Last night's concert in the park was the last one for the summer :-( I always look forward to these evenings with Sean in the summer.

And that was my fun-filled weekend, how was your weekend?

Snapshots of my Weekend

I have been analyzing my blog lately and I feel like I don't share much of me here on the blog, whether it be what my weekend entailed or my outfits for example. That will be my aim to present more of myself here on the blog. With that being said, today's blog is a snapshot of my weekend from Friday night up through Sunday night. Just a little snapshot here or there of what my weekend entailed.
Friday night, we rode our bikes to Yogurtland. Did we go to Yogurtland the Friday before too? Feel free to call us out if we did.

Sean was a little sad when the yogurt was eaten. I rode my awesome beach cruiser and Sean rode my trusty mountain bike.

Saturday was a trip down to San Diego to see the Padres loose to the Mets and hang out with that beautiful woman in the middle photo and her husband. I think my toes need a pedicure...

Sunday was a 6 mile train run with my running partner and trusty shoes, church with a sermon series titled Real Marriage going on and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We actually went to church, don't worry we didn't stay at home and watch it.

Have a great Monday all.

Hostess with the Mostess part sept

The winner of my Shabby Apple giveaway is Lindsay of Delighted Momma, congrats girl!
Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I mentioned on Friday that Sean and I would be getting frozen yogurt and seeing an outdoor movie, however, we stayed indoors, rented a movie but still got frozen yogurt. Word of warning, don't get in between me and my Yogurtland.
Their salted caramel pecan is ah-mazing and Little Caesar's pizza makes for a quick buy for dinner.

I am almost finishing up this Hostess with the Mostess, a series on how you can be the perfect hostess for a party. I have been pretty covered all the aspects of  party, if any of you think I have left something out, please let me know.
To re-cap, I have discussed the theme, decorations,  drinks, appetizersthe main course and a 4th of July inspired party

For this next installation of Hostess with the Mostess,
I am talking about the sweetest part of any meal, the dessert.
For me, when planning a party, you can to pair the dessert with the meal, if you have a light meal, keep the dessert on the light side with a sorbet or granita.
If I were having hamburgers and hot dogs at a party, I might make an apple pie or have chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches, a staple my mom would make when I was growing up.
Desserts are fun for me to make, I am more of a baker than a cook and if you knew me then you would know I will always ask what dessert can I bring.
What makes a good dessert for your party is to keep it simple, brownies, cookies, cupcakes. Have the desserts in individual servings for your guest. A cake is not a good idea that everyone has to cut up for themselves, or everyone will stare at everyone else wondering who is going to the first person to cut into that cake.
Here are a few dessert ideas for chocolate fans.

If you are going for a lighter dessert, fruit is always a great choice!

Maybe the humidity still has everyone sweating at 9pm and to cool off, you offer some chilled desserts.

You could pre-slice this dessert before your guests come, leave them in the frozen until it is dessert time

Frozen banana bites are yummy

You could make popsicles

Or a granita

If you want to include ice cream, you can pre-scoop ice cream into cupcake liner, place them in the cupcake pan and leave it the freezer until serving time.

What I enjoy about desserts is the possibilities are endless and I'm sure for the party you are hosting, you will enjoy pairing your dessert with the theme and menu of your party.

How to Dress for a Wedding

Let's see, it is  Friday, can I get a woohoo and it is Friday's Fancies, can I get another woohoo!! What are your weekend plans? Tomorrow we are probably keep it low-key because Sunday through Monday, Sean and I are off to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and then if you want to count July 18 as the 3rd anniversary of when he proposed. The deal for us is he plans the odd-numbered year anniversaries and I plan the even. He doesn't know what we are doing so I can't write about it just in case he does decided to read today's post.
Today's Friday's Fancies of wedding guest attire is actually a perfect lead into next week because I am sharing more of our wedding, the details, the particulars, etc.
Anyways I will say this about wedding guest attire, please be appropriate.
At our wedding, I came back from our honeymoon and all my co-workers asked me who was that girl who was practically wearing a t-shirt? I think technically it was a dress but it easily be as an extra long t-shirt. Additionally, we had a guest who wore a little too short yellow dress with white shorts underneath the dress, not appropriate.
When it comes to appropriate guest attire, the invitation should tell you all. If the invitation is rather fancy, dress fancy. Sometimes more fancy weddings will instruct on the invitations, black-tie required.
Do some research about the venue where the ceremony and reception will take place.

This is the outfit I created for this week's Friday's Fancies.

There you have it! Have a great weekend everyone!

Hostess with the Mostess - 4th of July edition

Did you enter my SkincareRx $20 giveaway?  You have until July 11 to do so.
Happy Monday! What a great weekend with my cousin, I always enjoy hanging out with her and we just have the best time. Friday night when I landed, we went to a food truck fest called Moveable Feast. Only at a food truck can you have a Cuban sandwich along with a deep-fried tofu steamed bun and an ice cream sandwich with mango ice cream.

Saturday we headed up to SF, which we tend to do when I came into town. We went to unique SF, which was a diy vendor market. Tons of great and creative jewelry, plus free food samples and even drinks. I saw a cute tinted lip balm by a company of two sisters' who live about 20 minutes from me. I say gotta support your local folks. After browsing around unique SF for like 3 hours we headed to a high-end retail store called Jeremy's who was having a ridiculously low-priced sale. Finally, we headed back to San Jose but on our way to get back to the freeway, we drove past another food truck fest. We said, "dinner!" This time having Indian food and mac and cheese topped with pulled pork, yummy!
Sunday we went to a farmer's market, did a bit of shopping and then took a 2 hour hike.
Ok that was my weekend, how was yours?

For the next installment of the Hostess with the Mostess, it is only fit that I focus on 4th of July today.
