Tucson Sunsets

Happy Monday all! I hope you had a nice weekend, maybe we are looking at cooler weather here this week in southern California but that might be wishful thinking too. Can you tell that I am feeling deprived of fall weather? I want to wear boots! I want to wear scarves! I want to wear sweaters!
I had this post as a draft and thought I would post it for you all today. I've been feeling a little less creative lately in the blog realm so I thought I would let nature paint some beautiful pictures.
These photos are sunsets I took in Tucson when I was visiting my parents there last month.
I was in awe of the great sunsets I saw in Tucson almost every night, there was one night without a great sunset because it was raining and there was cloud cover. I was determined to catch each sunset, to capture its beauty and the multitude of colors I saw.

Late Summer Inspiration

What do I do when Sean is away? I had a girlfriend over to watch Bachelor Pad and drink a girly drink made from moscato, Sprite and pink lemonade concentrate, yup that was my evening last night!
If summer wasn't here already in California than in the past week, it has really made its presence known. I'm talking over 100 degrees each day and maybe where you live 100 degrees for a week is nothing but over here I am melting. Or I can look at it as preparing me for next week when I will be in Tucson all week. My mom is having surgery on her shoulder, torn rotator cuff, on Monday so I am heading there to hang out with her while she recovers.
These extreme temps we have been having had made me want to shop for more summer clothes,
fall is definitely not on the brain at all. That being said, I did a little Internet shopping for you all and found a few late summer pieces I hope you enjoy as much as I would enjoy having all of these items in my closet.

Hostess with the Mostess part deux

This weekend, why are you over already? I thoroughly enjoy my two days of freedom. This weekend, Sean and I painted an office and a hallway inside our condo. Sean painted the downstairs by himself last summer and this summer it was the upstairs. Believe me, painting would never be on my weekend agenda but after painting with Sean yesterday, he sure makes painting fun! We are in the process of finding a new church so we went to a new one this weekend and then my running partner had her Masters graduation party yesterday. Now it is Monday already...
What did you all do this weekend?

Does anyone remember that three Mondays ago I started a new summer series titled Hostess with the Mostess? Then came vacation and two awesome guest posters to help me with the Mondays, I was gone but this series is back here now on a regular basis now. I am doing this series because I love summer, I love entertaining during the summer, I love to have summery drinks in hand while the bbq is cooking and then topping off the meal with a fresh fruit dessert always a la mode!
The first post was summery drinks. The next series in this post is appetizers. After your guests walk into a party, grab a drink, frequently appetizers are next up on the agenda. The appetizers can vary from chip and dip to little bites.
I think it is important that appetizers aren't too hard to handle, with a drink already in your guest's hand, you have to think quick, easy and simple. A guest could quickly pop an appetizer into their mouth and walk away. Having to deal with a plate, scoop some dip onto the plate and then grab some chips still with the drink in your other hand, I am not a fan of this juggling. So make the appetizers easy for your guests.
Pick appetizers like these.

The veggies and the dip are together and it is very portable.

Another easy appetizer

These are simple and will hold together well with the toothpick.

Make appetizers that are one or two bites like bruschetta

Or crab cakes.

I would recommend if you do want to have some chips and dip, put it in individual cups and ready for your guests just to pick up

When thinking about appetizers at your party, think about convenience for your guests. It is a pain to scoop dip onto a plate, to handle a fork and maybe knife as well as a plate and if you already have a drink in hand. Convenience is king and if everything is individually prepared or one or two bites, it will also make clean-up easier for you because you won't have as many utensils to wash later on.
Next week's Hostess with the Mostess will feature themes especially since we will be a few days away from 4th of July already!

Guest Post- The Short and Sweet of It

I love blogger meet-ups, why because you get to meet the coolest people behind their blogs. Alexa and Kirby of the Short and Sweet of It are those cool people you have to meet one day. I am honored to have Kirby guest posting here today, and her sense of style is just beyond cool too. Wishing I had this amazing trip she has coming up and telling you all about today. Thank you Kirby!!

Hi everyone! Kirby from The Short and the Sweet of It here. I'm so happy to be guest posting for Meg while she's enjoying her summer vacation!

I'm anxiously awaiting an upcoming girls' trip to Miami this August, to celebrate my friend Michelle's bachelorette, so I thought I'd share what I'd love to be packing in my weekend bag later this summer.
It's going to be H-O-T in Miami in August, so we'll be spending the majority of our daylight hours in the pool. I spotted the mint green, Aztec print bikini on Pinterest and have to have it. Does anyone know who makes it? And if you're ever going to sport a spotted leopard bikini, Miami is the place to do it!

Since it's a quick trip, I'll try to pack items that can work with multiple outfits, like the black clutch. For night one, I'll pair a breezy black dress with neon heels and a statement necklace. For night two, I'll show off my new tan with a snakeskin print mini.

Thanks for having me Meg!

Guest Post - Join the Gossip

Monday all, and I hope you had an awesome weekend and a huge thank you to all my guest posters for their guest posts. I can't wait for you to read them all.
I met Leeann back in February on our way down to San Diego for the huge blogger meet-up we went to. 2 hours in a car with a girl I had never met? Turned out awesome, we had a great time and I consider Leeann a real life friend as well as a blogger friend. Hope you all enjoy her post!

Hi there! My name is Leeann and I blog over at Join the Gossip. I am so excited to be here today, filling in for Meg. She's a doll! I'm fortunate enough to have hung out with her a few times in-person, so I can vouch for her being just as sweet in real life as she is on this blog!
While Meg is away on vacation she has me daydreaming of a getaway myself. Although I live in LA very close to beaches, it seems like I never get out to any of them. This summer it's time to make a change!
In order to be beach ready a trip to Old Navy is necessary! Check out all of these items below. For just over $100 you can be set for summer. Not too bad considering how much use you can get out of everything.

Happy shopping, Henning Love readers. And happy soon-to-be summer!

Summery Drinks

*You have only today and tomorrow to enter my Hat Attack giveaway, go here to enter.
Ladies,
Starting the next few Mondays I will be having a new summer series titled, Hostess with the Mostess, on how to properly entertain during those summer months when the days are longer, bbqs cooking all sort of goodness, and the ice cream demands to be licked faster because of the warmer temps.

Also lately, I have been wanting to play hostess.
Blame it on the fact that our weekly bible study unfortunately crashed and burned so we don't meet up anymore. Hence the lack of baking on this blog, Sean and I can't eat up all the sweets all the time. If anyone is wanting to come on over, whenever I bake, please let us know, we would love to have you. Blame it on wanting more of a social life, I am a person who gets her energy from being social, from hanging out with friends, from being in large groups. Blame it on really wanting to try some of these amazing summery drinks I have been reading in magazines, seeing on Pinterest or reading on other blogs.
This week's Hostess with the Mostess focuses on drinks, the starter to any great party. When you arrive, the hostess will ask you what can I get you to drink? It is a good way to start a party, it sets the mood for the food that is coming and helps to cool you off from the summertime heat.

I will ask you can I interest you in a:
Strawberry Watermelon Cooler

Or a
Honeydew aqua fresca

Or perhaps a
Blackberry Sage Cooler

Or can I entice you with a
Sparkling Pineapple Ginger Ale

Care for a
Peach Summer Sangria

How about a?
Mango Raspberry Sangria

Will you come over to my house now if I served these drinks?
Next in this Hostess with the Mostess series will be appetizers!

Dressed to the Max(i)

Another summer staple of mine is maxi dresses. I have noticed looking into my closet that I have always bought printed maxi dress, I don't have a single solid colored maxi dress that I own. Should I change that?
If I had to own just ONE solid-colored maxi dress in my closet, what color should I pick? Answer the comment section.
I love a good maxi dress for a few reasons:
1.It is lightweight
2.perfect for the summer heat.
3.you can wear it as a bathing suit cover-up
4. it is easy going and I don't have to add much else to my outfit

Here are some maxi dresses and outfits I hope to be styling this summer.
