Guest Post - Kate from Daffodils

Good morning lovelies! Happy Halloween! I haven't stuffed myself with Halloween candy just yet, maybe that part is still to come. First, I wanted to make you know about the Pick Your Plum giveaway that is open until this Friday. Enter if you haven't yet! It is for a $50 gift card for their craft supplies. Go here for the giveaway post.

Second, the winner of the Brittany Chavers necklace is Val from A Texan Odyssey! Congrats Val!

Today I have a lovely blogger for you by the name of Kate doing a guest post here. This week you will have a few guest posts because tomorrow I launch my new series, From My Hometown To Yours. This series is hypothetical, if I took a vacation to come visit you where would you take me, what would you show me and where would we go eat!  I have the posts going up each Tuesday and Thursday in November. If anyone would like to participate in this series, please contact me :-)

Hi henning love, loves! My name is Kate and you can find me over at Daffodils blogging about life in Monterey, CA with my two little boys and handsome husband. Meg and I are new blogger friends and I am so happy I found her because not only is she beautiful and talented, but o-so-nice too. Her comments are so sweet and I hope we can meet in real life one day. I am incredibly excited to be over here today to share one of my favorite stories about my family’s pumpkin patch tradition.
Growing up, going to the pumpkin patch was a big deal, so you can imagine my excitement when I brought Kev (my now hubby) along for the first time. We were already engaged, but it was the first fall we were together, so this was still a big moment for me: how would my future husband fare during one of my favorite days of the year? My parents, three brothers, fiancé and I piled into my family’s ancient Suburban and started heading south. There were talks of who could find the best pumpkin, who would win the miniature pedal tractor race and who could jump the furthest off the rope in the hay barn. Just outside my neighborhood, we stopped for gas, and my brothers immediately leaped out of the car to throw the football since they are literally incapable of sitting still, or doing anything that doesn’t involve competition. My soccer playing fiancé, bless his heart, attempted to get in on the action. Being that he was a Division 1 goalie, his involuntary action was to kick the football. Well, kick it he did…all the way onto the roof of the 7/11. My brothers collapsed on to the ground like that had been hit in the groin with a barbell, accused my fiancé of ruining their year, demanded I give him my engagement ring back and assured him he was not welcome to join our family. My dear mom told them it would be ok, we would stop and get another football (we really did), but they still all returned to the Suburban, sulking and disheartened because ‘that guy’ destroyed everything.
They ultimately forgave him and let us get married a few months later. They even agreed to be in the wedding, but only if they could wear tuxedo t-shirts (which they did, but thankfully not until the reception). And just when my husband and I thought we were in the clear from the football incident, the following Christmas, at age 26,  he received youth, pink soccer socks and a Barbie soccer ball from my 26, 18 and 15 year old brothers. To this day, my they give Kev a hard time about it!

Kev with his peace offering to my brothers: tuxedo Tshirts

Luckily Kev has redeemed himself in my eyes and has faithfully taken me (and now our boys too) to the pumpkin patch every year. It is so fun to pass these traditions down to our own children and I can’t wait to see how they continue to develop.

Do you have any great family tradition stories? I’d love to hear!
I hope you will pop over to Daffodils to say hello! Thanks Meg for letting me share this little piece of my family history

Spread the Message

I want to talk to you ladies about something that I think we tend to take it for granted. Yes it comes around once a month, usually, it causes cramping, bloating, mood swings, general feelings of ickiness. We pop a few pain relievers, use whatever method you use to stop the flow and then go about our day. However, I want to bring something to your attention about the method that you use to stop your flow. Some women in our world do not have the access to either a tampon or a pad. Some girls who are attending school unfortunately have to sit out that week simply because they can't afford a tampon and it is just easier to stay at home, it is less embarassing. Can you imagine if you had to stay at home for the entire week of your period, miss out on learning, just because you couldn't afford tampons or pads that week?

The tampon maker, o.b. is teaming up by starting a Facebook campaign to raise awareness and money for the organization called Huru International on behalf of these items that I think we tend to take for granted. Since 2008, Huru has campaigned for these women and aided them by putting together kits that include eight sanitary reusable pads, three pairs of underwear, detergant-grade soap to wash the reusable pads, re-sealable, waterproof bag to keep the pads in when not in use and information about HIV/AIDS prevention. These kits cost only $25 for each girl and their goal is to raise $25,000
so 1000 Huru kits can be distributed.

It is easy for you to help o.b. and Huru out. All you have to do is to share this campaign on Facebook, and then o.b. is give $1 to Huru to help them towards their goal. Want to help spread the message and provide girls in other countries something you take for granted? Then go to o.b.'s Facebook page and click on their Outreach tab. Go to their Facebook page to start and click on the share link on the lower left hand. You can share this important campaign on your Facebook wall, a friend's wall, as a message to any friend, as a group message. Once you click share, you will be asked to select the state you live in, check the mark saying you agree to their terms and conditions, then click the pink click to share tab and helps spread the word!
Will you do that for me, help spread the word? Thanks a ton! xoxo, Meg

"I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of o.b. and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate."

Halloween Pet Costumes

Today is the last day to enter the Brittany Chavers Key to My Heart necklace, go here to enter if you haven't. I just opened up the Pick Your Plum giveaway too which runs through next Friday.

The last time I dressed up for Halloween I was a sophomore in college and we went around and collected candy like we were younger and would come home with huge smiles on our faces showing our parents all the candy and cavities we had collected during the night! Since then, I haven't been too big on Halloween, none of my friends have a party, I don't think about my costume each year, and I don't decorate a ton. But one thing I secretly want to do is dress up my dogs, don't ask me why I just think it would be cute and adorable, until they start chewing at their costume and if there is an ounce of stuffing anywhere in their costume, it will be pulled up within 5 seconds. So to save money, I don't actually buy a costume for them because I know it is a waste of money but it is still fun to think about. So I'm taking a poll for what costume to buy Kip and Kimbia, a boy costume for Kip, and a girl costume for Kimbia. Help me decide please!
Today I am linking this post up with the huge blog fest!

Cup of Coffee with Callie of The Good Life

Cup of Coffee is a series that I just now named to introduce you to other bloggers with a series of fun questions. Hope you enjoy and tomorrow is the last day to enter my Brittany Chavers necklace giveaway! Take it away Callie, who I like to call my southern sunshine, because she is always so warm, happy and full of that southern charm :-)

Hey Yall!!!!

I am Callie from The Good Life , and I can't tell you how excited I am to be over here at Henning Love. O my, is Meg not the best?? She is just the sweetest, cutest little baking queen I've ever seen. I tell her all the time, that if we ever met in real life, we would DEF be best friends!

Well, this is my first time to ever do a guest blog and Meg and I decided to do a little interview type of blog swap, so that yall could learn a little about us! So we are each answering the same 10 questions. Be sure to check out Meg's answers over at my blog. Hope yall enjoy :)

1) What is one thing that gets you really excited or the most happy?
What makes me most happy is my husband, Kendol and just hanging out with him everyday! We have a blast and he's the bestest!

2) What is one dish or meal you want to learn how to make really really well?
Chicken N' Dumplins!!! I'm pretty good at it now, but I must master the dumplin' part!! I have yet to get the hang of the "kneading" of the dough part.

3) What sports if any did you play in high school?
I was a cheerleader 7th-12th grade and I played Softball and High Jumped until 9th grade. I also took tap and jazz outside of school!!!

4) If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
OOOOOO... tought one, but the first person that came to mind is Khloe Kardashian..So apparently that's who it is! Random, right?? Not exactly bc I am a little obsessed with the whole Kardashian Klan and she just so happens to be my favorite. Plus she is tall, like me and loves hats!! (I must meet her... she is fab)

Why Khloe, you ask? Well if I was Khloe, I would get to learn what it feels like to just be as open and honest as possible. She is an open book and I love that about her. What you see is what you get. Sometimes I need to be a little more like that. Plus she is hilarious!! And just a few bonuses: I would get to live in a huge beatiful house, sit front row at a Lakers game, get to wear and shop for fabulous designer clothes that I can only dream of, get to see first hand, just how hard those Kardashian girls work and hustle! It's cray cray! Plus I would get to meet the rest of the crazy fam that I love! Maybe do a photoshoot... I mean who doesn't dream of being fabulous enough to do a photo shoot. She just lives a completely opposite life from mine down here in small town MS, so I think it would be neat to experience their crazy life and go to Cali!! I've never been there and have always dreamed of it! And I would get to meet Lam Lam.. Is he not the sweetest??

5) What is a big pet peeve of yours?
I CANNOT stand when people's pants are too short... like when men get their slacks tailored and they don't even touch their shoes... O MY GOSH.... makes me want to scream ha! Why would you ever waste a good pair of pants like that?

And I also have a major issue with repetitive noises.. MAJOR issue.. doesn't matter what it is... clock ticking, alarm, jam band music that plays the same thing over and over and over. I couldn't even watch 24, bc of those stupid beeping noises at every commercial break.

6) If I came to visit, what’s the one thing you would make sure we did and the one restaurant we MUST go to?
I would take you to the Mississippi Delta and show you around!! The crops, the blues, the food, the shopping (MS Gift Company and McCarty Pottery would be musts), ride a few backroads... It would be awesome! Then I would take you to eat at Lusco's. My absolute favorite restaurant from my hometown.

7) What is your favorite sport to watch and what teams (college and professional) do you follow?
My favorite sport to watch is football, but I love basketball and baseball as well! I am an avid Mississippi State University and New Orleans Saints follower!!

HAIL STATE

GEAUX SAINTS!!

8) How did you and your husband meet?
Funny story. My first cousin, Kaylis, was a Tri Delta with me at MS State, but left after our sophomore year to go to nursing school. She came back for our very last date party our senior year. Her boyfriend at the time played baseball, so he couldn't attend. She asked one of her best friends from Highschool to go with her. So after the date party, we had "late night" at our house and by the end of the night it was just Kendol (her date) and I sitting on the front porch. We talked until the sun came up... then we proceeded to go to Hardees for breakfast... He did not tell me we were going IN Hardee's... I was barefoot... He made me go in Hardee's barefoot and in my pj's.... He called me two days later and we have been together ever since!! I still can't figure out what he saw in me, bc I had on XXL t-shirt and a pair of VS sweat pants.

9) Have you ever met anyone famous? If so, who’s your favorite that you’ve met, and who is the one person you would die to meet?
I have met 3 famous people. Jerry Rice, Tracy Byrd and Fred Smoot.

I would have to say my favorite is Jerry Rice, duh!! He is only one of the best football players of all times. And he went to MS Valley State University which is practically in my home town. His parents live in Starkville, MS (where MS State is located), so he comes back to visit pretty often. When we met him, he was just at a bar called "The Abbey" hanging out. Super nice!! I'm sure he thought we were cray-zay!!

Think I was a little excited??
And the one person I would die to meet??? I have a few (I can't pick just one..impossible)... Justin Timberlake, first and foremost (swooooon). Make fun of me all you want to about JT, but I don't care!! I've loved him since Mickey Mouse Club and always will. Yes, I have been to many, many N'SYNC concerts and 2 Justin concerts (during and post college).. P.S. I have lots of old N' SYNC concerts on VHS if anyone else knows all the moves and ever wants to have a dance party... I'm down.. Just sayin.

I mean... what's not to love?

I would also love to meet "King" George Strait. No explanation needed.

And I would love to hang out with Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. I believe we would be best friends... for real.

O yes... I was just supposed to name one.. whoopsy!! I guess I will stop :)

10) What is your favorite movie of all times?
8 Seconds... hands down!! I could watch it over and over and over and over... Dirty Dancing is a very very close second.

Welp... that's it for now!!
Thanks so much for having me Sweet Meg!

Candy Corn Fun - - Oh Pinteresting Wednesday

Hey, have you entered my giveaway for the necklace by Brittany Chavers?
Go here if you haven't the giveaway closes on Friday.

Yesterday I showed you how to make candy corn cupcakes and today for your viewing pleasure I have candy corn images, that are either made out of candy corns or involved candy corns somehow, other than for eating. Normally, I am not a fan of this particular candy, there is too much great candy out there this time of year anyway that I have to pick and choose my favorites. Candy corn just doesn't top the list. As Halloween is a few days away, feast your eyes on this candy corn awesomeness! Linking this up over to the Vintage Apple as well!
