how to make homemade popcorn

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that Sean and I haven't had a microwave since we moved down to Riverside in September. I'm sure you all have been wondering since I told you that how do Sean and I eat popcorn, you know those microwavable bags of popcorn. Popcorn to make on the stove top is super easy and not full of all those chemicals that fill up those bagged popcorn packets.
Today I'll show you how easy it is to make homemade popcorn!

In a large sauce pan, add 3 tablespoons of peanut, grapeseed or coconut oil.

If you want to your popcorn to be evenly salted, add the salt to the oil now.

Add in 3 or 4 popcorn kernels to the pan and put the lid on and put the sauce pan over a medium heat.

Once the popcorn kernels inside the pan have popped, remove the pan from the heat and pour in 1/3 cup of kernels in an even layer and put the lid on the pan.

Leave the saucepan off of the heat and count 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, put the saucepan back on the heat and wait for the popcorn to start popping. Once the popping begins, leave the lid on and shake the pan around to prevent burning of the popcorn. The popcorn will be done when the popping noises happen several seconds apart. Remove the pan then from the pan and pour the popcorn into another bowl immediately.

Pour melted butter on top of the popcorn and shake the bowl to evenly distribute it. Salt the popcorn, again if necessary for taste. Or for fun flavors, try different spices. In these photos, I added cajun seasoning for some kick and heat.

*Other flavoring possibilities are smoked paprika, chili pepper, curry powder, grated Parmesan cheese or for a sweet taste cinnamon and sugar.

We just made homemade popcorn for the first time a couple months ago! Love the idea of Cajun spices. We used sea salt & rosemary.

I love homemade popcorn - there's no comparison to the over-flavored microwaveable junk. Parmesan on top (and lots of black pepper) is a favorite!
