Caleb's Nursery

Yup a LONG time after I said I would be posting about his nursery, I finally get around to doing it, that is my new life and I just have to roll with the punches. Some days, I will celebrate getting a bit more done while other days it will be able the small things I was able to accomplish.

Caleb's nursery doesn't have a theme, primarily it is a collection of white and black with hints of grey and red. I had the nursery "theme" selected before we knew the sex of our baby and it wasn't going to change whether it was a boy or girl. However, I almost almost changed the two accent colors based on this teal fox cookie jar from a la Target!

I was about to change the colors to white and black with accents of tan/beige and turquoise. Yup all because of one stupid cookie jar but then I had already told my mother the nursery colors and she was sewing his quilt based on the white/black/red/grey combo. So I changed it back to my original nursery idea.

Pinterest wasn't around when I planned our wedding but thank goodness Pinterest is around for the planning of his nursery :-) It sure made collecting ideas easier for his nursery. I knew I wanted books to be a part of his room, not necessarily in a bookcase but part of the decor/easily accessible to start building his vocabulary early by reading to him frequently, even now.

I knew I wanted the dresser to function as his changing table as well, less furniture in the room and dual purpose furniture are a win-win in my book. A rocker was essential as well because as the saleswoman at Baby R Us put it, "you will be sitting in it a lot."

The decorations in the room came from items Sean and I already owned that were sitting in a box or not being used to their full potential. Like these hexagon mini shelves, I owned them when I lived by myself before Sean and I got married and they were black so of course they were going in his nursery. My brother designed and made this print for everyone in our family a few years back and it was red and white and perfect colors for Caleb's room. Pulling items that we already owned that were fortunately in the wanted colors helped me to put his room together a lot quicker.

Then Sean pulled the ultimate surprise, he stayed home from work two days before Thanksgiving and one day before my parents arrived to celebrate with us last year and he cleaned the room out, set everything up, and hung all the shelves and photos. It was a real work of love Sean setting up the room and seeing it all come together for someone at the time we hadn't yet seen, had no idea what he would look like all we knew was we loved him.
So here it is, his nursery.

One of my favorite aspects of his nursery is the book shelves, which I found at Ikea and spray painted them red. At a thrift store I visited frequently are books that I remember from my childhood.

A nursery is a labor of love and Sean and I certainly enjoyed preparing for Caleb in this way.

Love it, love that it's not "baby" but totally functional for when he gets bigger too. Those hexagon shelves are cute too! How are you doing?

How sweet of the hubs to set up the room for you! Since we are uncertain of where we will be living I am hesitant to dismantle our guest room. Boy better get a move on it we have 23 more weeks to go until little miss makes an appearance!

what a great color combo!! since we were adopting we didn't know if we were going to have a boy or girl and we needed to start working on our nursery before we were picked. we chose a gender neutral color scheme as well: yellow, grey and white - then after we brought our daughter home I added touches of pink!
