Love will hit you when you least expect.
Love will deepen sometimes in the most unusual circumstances.
Love will leave that lodge in your throat that suddenly you have to swallow
or else you might start crying.
Last week if you saw on Instagram, henninglove if you aren't already following, Kip became sterile. We finally bit the bullet and got it done. What I wasn't expecting was my response and later in the evening Kip's response to me.
It was the standard procedure, drop him off in the morning and expect to pick him up later in the afternoon. As a guy, Sean felt for Kip and didn't want to have anything to do with the experience so I dropped Kip off and picked him up later in the day. When the vet tech came to get him, that lump appeared in my throat. That lump that later turned into nerves of the thought that my dog was going under the knife later to never ever be able to pass his genes onto the next generation of Jack Russell Terriers.
As the day progressed and neither Sean nor I heard from the vet, the nerves turned into worry of is my dog ok? Finally, the vet's office called to say he was out of surgery and came out of anesthesia great and if I wanted to come pick him up now I could. After I called Sean to say Kip was great, I couldn't have flown out the door faster to see my puppy. To see my little sidekick, to see my constant companion around the house. If you hang out at our home for any length of time, you will notice that Kimbia stays with Sean primarily and Kip is always by my side. I am the one who he wakes up to feed him breakfast in the morning, yes he does that, don't ask. I am the one he comes to give him treats, let him out to go to the bathroom, etc. You get the picture.
The rest of the day I was constantly watching Kip especially because he had the cone on and was banging into furniture and legs of coffee tables and chairs.
Later in the evening with the cone off and as I was laying on the couch, Kip came up to be with him and laid his eye down so gingerly on my chest. Usually he lays down near my feet so it was a surprise to have him lay so closely. Then he promptly fell asleep right there on my chest. It is one of those moments that still surprise and shock you how much you love someone even if that someone is your dog.
If this is the case now then come January, how will my heart contain all the love that I have for Baby Henning? I have a finally it will all work itself out... even if I have to start wearing sweatshirts and t-shirts with a heart print to demonstrate the amount of love my heart is overwhelmed by.

I love you even more for writing this post. :) I felt the same way when my poor kitty had an operation and had to wear that stupid cone. Glad Kip is okay!
Awwww what a sweet sweet boy. Glad his surgery went ok. I really need a dog. Cats are not half this precious.

sweet puppy, i love how much you love your dogs Meg. and it sounds like Kip knows exactly how much too. your heart will right about explode with all the love you'll contain within when your baby is born, but i hear that's okay. :)
Sweet, sweet Kip! I wonder that ALL the time...could I possibly love a real human child more than Pierre? I'm not sure.
I know exactly what you mean- my pup is my constant companion & sidekick too!
always, koru kate
Aw... So sweet. Glad everything went well and he's recovering!

The cone of shame is the worst. When I got my girl fixed it was the worst- so much more recovery time and pain than my boy dog. You are going to be a great mom!
Oh what a tough lil' guy!! Those pics are so sweet! I'd be in live too:-) the cone always make them look so pitiful... Awe!! Love your puppy!
awe pup. I'm glad things went well dear.

Awww...looks like he got through it. And yes you will feel like that when you hold baby Henning times a million. Although I've never had a pet, so I don't really know, but can only imagine.
I am the SAME about our dog. I wonder how I will be able to love a baby as much as I love our dog. And it's scary to think that I will actually love him or her more than Pickles. Poor little Kip!! xoxo
awww he is so sweet, I am glad he is ok! Love you sweet friend!
xxS
I feel for Kip but I also am so happy to hear you decided to neuter him. With all the animals that get euthanized each day in shelters this will ensure none of Kip's future lines will meet that terrible demise. xoxo
ahh poor kip! but way to be a responsible doggy parent, even if it wasn't easy!
My goodness, Meg, I totally get it. I was watching my little pup play outside yesterday and as I watched her it was like this overwhelming feeling of, "oh man, I really love this dog." It kinda caught me off guard!
They are family! Glad it all went okay.
Awww, poor Kip!
I hated when Watson had to wear the cone. I wanted to take it off all the time.
Ah so precious... You're heart is going t explode and you're gonna be an amazing mamma :)
Smile on his face even with that cone - heart melts!
aww little dude~~ i love that story of how he came to put his head on your chest and fell asleep. piri doesn't usually like to lay down next to us, but there are rare times when he does.. when he needs some lovin and support or when he senses that we do. i love the furry members of our family. they just make our lives so much more special and filled with so much love. :)
Such a sweet post.. I have two dogs (english springers) and my "baby" is almost two. When she went under the knife .. and wore the cone of shame.. it was horrible. It's all for the best though and they don't hold it against you:) or remember much. Our pets are such an important part of our lives. My kids are grown and my pups have replaced them ..as my children:) It's wonderful and worth all the mess.
aww how sweet! I feel the same way about my pups (or should I say babies)!!
