How To Paint Your Curtains!

*don't forget about my giveaway here for an initial gold disk pendant necklace and also sign up for the ornament swap I am hosting with Alisha and Ashley, the deadline is Monday!

As I mentioned yesterday, I love using paint, acrylic or spray, to provide a quick update or new look or to add some color on something I already own. There was a weekend recently when Sean was home for a full 12 hours before he left for another trip and that means project time for me. I was debated whether to do our dining room and living room curtains since they are on the same wall but the dining room had two curtain panels, the living room had four. I opted for the dining room curtains and I am glad I did.
I bought acrylic paint at Michaels in those tiny 69 cent bottles, why, because Michaels fails to carry the color grey in the larger bottles. Out of all the colors even glittery golds and sparkly silvers, they skip over grey. So I ended up going to two Michaels, buying out their entire grey line of non-glossy paint.

Also I bought a foam roller brush, a painting tray, a drop cloth and then blue taping tape. Then I laid out the curtain on the drop cloth, measured out the curtain and then figured out the length of each painted stripe and the spacing length. Then painstakingly painted over and over and over again!
Finally, one curtain was done and then I realized I had another to do. I let the curtains dry overnight then the next morning, peeled the blue tape away and voila, painted striped curtains!
Enjoy the photos!

I love them! And I think it's so much better doing it that way rather than spending the money to get the fancy expensive ones from West Elm or Pottery Barn :)

I think I could manage painting curtains. I love the look of thick stripes. This seems much easier than learning to sew. (:

Looks great. I attempted this a few months ago and the project ended up being a disaster! I accidently marked off my tape wrong on the 2nd panel so the stripes were different sizes on the curtain. Then while the paint was dryin my dog snuck in and ran over them so I had painted paw prints all over them! UGH!
