Nutella Rice Krispies

I have to admit something, I don't really love rice krispies. My mom didn't make them when I was growing up, the only time I ever got rice krispies was at birthday parties or school treats. I did make them once myself but goodness those things are beyond sticky. However, my opinion about rice krispies may have changed slighty with the following recipe. If you are a lukewarm lover of rice krispies, then maybe your opinion will change to and if you are a rice krispies lover already, be prepared to fall more in love!
Today's recipe is nutella rice krispies. That is correct my friend, Nutella rice krispies. You know I had to say it a second time for extra affect!

My love affair for Nutella started when we lived in Japan, all the European families were eating that stuff for breakfast. I tried it and oh my gosh. The only thing I have ever done with Nutella is spread it on a piece of toasted white bread and the warmth from the bread melted the Nutella just slightly, oh.my.gosh.
Today I am venturing out and using Nutella to bake with and to keep my love affair alive and give me other ways to enjoy this incredible chocolate hazelnut gooey-ness! Enjoy!

For this recipe, gather your ingredients: 5-6 cups puffed rice cereal, 1 bag (10.5oz) mini marshmallows, 1/4 cup butter, 2 cups Nutella (heap it on), 1 1/2 cup chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon shortening.

In a large pot, melt the butter and marshmallows together over low heat.

Once the marshmallows are completely melted, add in 1 cup Nutella and stir, stir, stir.

After the Nutella is completely mixed, add in the 5-6 cup puffed rice cereal and stir to coat the puffed rice completely.

In a 13X9 greased pan, press the puffed rice coated Nutella-marshmallow mixture in the pan.

To make the Nutella frosting, in a smaller saucepan, melt the chocolate chips with the shortening.

When the chips are completely melted, add in the other cup of Nutella and stir to combine completely.

Pour the chocolatey goodness over the Nutella puffed rice and let the topping set before you cut the puffed rice into squares.

Then serve, eat and enjoy!

And say hello to my husband!

Rice Krispie treats have always been boring to me. I always think that I would rather have chocolate so these are perfect for me :)

oh yum! i make these all of the time, but without the icing. i just combine rice krispies, butter, marshmallows, and nutella in the skillet. the addition of the icing looks out of control--i can't wait to try it!! :)
