I can't believe I missed it!

Ok I am kicking myself right now because yesterday I forgot an important day. I forgot it was Pi Day 3/14. Probably because I was never good at math, probably because the last math class I took was back in high school when I graduated in 2002, eck oh shoot that makes my 10 year reunion this year. Eck, double eck! However, I need to make up for a fabulous baking day and in my world it is Pi Day, it is Pi(e) Day and I will be celebrating it one day late.
Also happy 32 years of marriage to my parents who celebrated yesterday.

Onto the pie!! I enjoy pie, a lot, I believe I have several recipes of pie here on the blog. Each year for my birthday, I asked my mom for a lemon meringue pie instead of a cake. On year in 8th grade, I entered an apple pie baking contest and I won third place.

What makes a great pie? For me, it is a homemade crust. Please don't buy that Pillsbury box, pull out a tube of crust, unroll it over your pie plate and bake. Seriously, a homemade pie crust is really really easy. I have done it several times here on the blog. Don't be afraid of going homemade and trust me, the results aren't even comparable to those ready made crusts.

Now there are several different types of pie and I think in America there is a pie culture. You will find pies in the South, different types of pies in the North and all over. You can have a sweet or a savory pie. I'm sure you realize by now, I love pie!

In the summer, I love a fruit pie, strawberry, lemon meringue. When the temperatures cool off, I love an apple pie and of course at Thanksgiving, the traditional pumpkin pie and a personal favorite a chocolate pecan pie.
I'm sharing some more pie heaven with you now to get those stomachs rumbling and those mouths salivating!

Ok, now I want to hear from all of you. What is your favorite type of pie and if there a regional pie that I must know about!
Thanks!

I'm not a huge pie fan. (Don't judge!) I much prefer cake. However, Hoosier Mama Pies here in Chicago are supposed to be fantastic!

Meg...this is seriously a HARD question. Hmmm...I really like pumpkin a lot. But for summer...peach cobbler with REAL vanilla ice cream. Oh and chocolate pie. See...I can't make up my mind. Oddly I have never been a huge fan of apple. I mean if it's there I'll eat it...but if I had a choice...something else.

My favorite pies would have to be pumpkin pie and apple pie! The hubby and I bought {half of} an apple pie from Whole Foods yesterday to celebrate Pi{e} day! I plan to continue the celebration today by eating more! YUM!

Congrats to your parents! That's awesome!!

And you're not going to believe this but...I hate pie! Mostly because i don't like crust. The only pie I eat is pumpkin...without the crust. BUT that first pie looks SO good!
