Guest Post - Ashley from Diary of a Reporter

Happy Tuesday! Only four days left until the next weekend, yippee and next weekend on Sunday Sean and I have a wedding to attend, on September 11, what are your thoughts on that? Would you get married on September 11 or would you have picked another weekend?
Today for you I have the lovely and talented Ashley from Diary of a Reporter. She is always so sweet, her daughter is the cutest and for today, she is blessing you with a DIY pom pom and you can use them to decorate any wedding, bridal shower, baby shower or birthday party! Lets give her lots of comment love on her awesome tutorial and be sure to go over and check out her blog :-)

Hey everyone! I'm Ashley and I'm the writer of Diary of a Reporter. I was thrilled when Meg asked me to do a guest post, she really is one the sweetest bloggers around and someone I look forward to talking to every day.

Even though tissue paper pom poms have been around for ages, I have never actually made them. I've had them in the back of my mind for a while though; I just think they are so pretty. This guest post was a perfect excuse to break out my dusty scissors and do a little crafting. I used Martha Stewart's tutorial and just tweaked a couple of things to my liking. (Her version is available on her website.)

I think these are beautiful for weddings, parties, nurseries and bedrooms. They can range from fun to sophisticated, depending on the color scheme you choose.

You will need: eight sheets of tissue paper per pom, clear elastic hair bands, scissors and either fishing line or ribbon.

To hang, tie either fishing line or decorative ribbon around the center of each pom.

And...that's it! Piece of cake, right?

(For the smaller poms, I simply cut five sheets of tissue paper in half, lengthwise, stacked the tissue and followed the rest of the instructions.)

Hope you all enjoyed! Thanks Meg for letting me take over for a day. Have a great week, everyone!

These are so cute and easy to make - it would've saved me the $12 I spent at Party City to buy them!

As for the wedding, I'm more wondering why someone is choosing to get married on a Sunday. I personally wouldn't get married on September 11th, especially on the 10th anniversary but they must have their reasons.

How cute are those!! Ssuper cute for a baby or even bridal shower! :)

Wedding on 9/11? Strange. However maybe the day is significant to them or something. But if's it not, then yeah I think that's kinda out of character for a wedding. I think I would constantly be thinking of the bad. not the good of the day itself.

have fun at the wedding though!

Great tutorial! I may have to make some of these for Kate's birthday party.

As for the wedding-mixed feelings. While the tragic memories of that day are ingrained in our heads, I also think at some point we need to redirect that energy into something positive.

I love making tissue poms! We made some for my friend's personal shower. So cute! I'm not so sure I could get married on September 11th... I would feel so awkward celebrating on that day!!
