A post on community...

Last night I was having trouble coming up with today's post. Yesterday was Mother's Day and I could talk about what we did, blah blah but I wasn't feeling inspired to talk about Mother's Day although I did have a great first Mother's Day, Caleb, ahem Sean, gave me flowers and a card and Sean made a growth chart for Caleb. That will be another post for sure! He did a great job and I want to feature his awesome work. After pondering what to write, I decided to share how blessed I feel with the community that in just a few short months Sean and I have found down here in Riverside.

Community especially as a new mom is incredibly important. It is easy to feel a bit lonely as a mom particularly when friends are not close by or they work and you may not.  In the last few weeks, my community has been growing and as a result I grow as a mom.

Having a community strengthens and stretches you as a person.
Having a community provides support and comfort.
Having a community teaches me and encourages me.

Being a new mom has made me realize how important having a community is from being friends with women who has a few more years of experience as a mom or friends with mom who are just starting out as a mom. I look forward to the weekly play dates that Caleb and I attend with other moms through our church. I have been able to share openly my struggles and my excitement as a mom. At the same time, we don't just talk mom talk and I love that too.

Having a community is not just important as a mom but as an individual as well. By nature, we all are social creatures. We crave relationships, we crave to connect with others and we crave to be known by others.
Today I am feeling blessed and grateful for the community that God has provided in our life especially as a new mom.

Yesterday we went on our first family run together - a perfect way to start Mothers Day

Yay for running together as a family! And for Community! When I moved I was in the same boat, it was so great to meet other Mom's who were going through the same things as me. You should look to see if there is a Stroller Strides, or some sort of mommy exercise. Stroller Strides is a local workout that you do with your kid! Your kid rides in the stroller (duh) while you get a great workout in with other Mama's...then you usually hang out at the park afterwards. It was really awesome to a)workout everyday and b)be around other adults with kids. My husband always knew when I didn't go because I would always be a little more grumpy on those days:)

I love that! Community is sooooo important. And yay for first family runs :) I used my jogging stroller for the first time last week and whoa is it harder than just jogging alone, ha. But Kiernan enjoyed the experience, and I'm sure my endurance will grow eventually...

The cutest little family going out on a run together! I hope that when I'm a mother I have a community of people as wonderful as your tribe.

Can't wait to see the growth chart!

Glad you had such a perfect Mother's Day. Community is so important. I never realized that, either, until we bought our home and our new neighborhood is so close. A neighborhood Facebook page means I know I'll have (hopefully!) some fellow mama friends when the time comes. Glad you are so happy where you are :)

Having a community for any stage in your life is so important! I don't have any kids yet but I am newly married so I love having friends who are also so we can vent and compare and make sure I'm still normal!

This is so true! Having a community is one of the most important things in life, I think. When I first moved to Chicago, I didn't know anyone and I was so lost - It was a really hard time! I'm thankful you've found an amazing group of women to surround yourself with!
