Newborn Must Haves

So today is two weeks since Caleb was born and I am already wanting to share some favorite newborn items for soon to be and future moms. It is crazy we are two weeks into this journey of being his parents and in some ways it feels longer because I can't imagine life without him but then it feels short too. I still catch myself with a knot in my throat of how much I love him, like there is a physical oh I love him so much and that knot in my throat travel southward to the pit of my stomach on the thought of how could I NOT live without him. Life will clearly never be the same.
Anyways enough of my sappiness, time to focus on what I consider my must haves for a newborn.

First, clothes that have zippers especially for those diaper changes during the 3am feedings. Snaps are a pain in the butt during those times believe me. Zippers are easy. I am tempted to buy outfits with only zippers to be honest, they are that convenient.

My second must-have is a baby carrier, I bought the JJ Cole Agility carrier because I felt it would support Caleb's head and neck and it wouldn't flop around. When he gets older, I will buy the Ergo but for now, Caleb is close to me in the carrier and I don't have to worry about his neck flopping around.

The third is the City Mini stroller, I love love this stroller. It moves so easily, it is easy to open and close, it isn't super heavy. I love walking Caleb in the stroller. He is sitting in a car seat that sits on an attachment to the stroller but it still pushes so easily.

Lastly, a video monitor is my newborn must-have. The first night home from the hospital was rough because he was in his crib in his room and we were in our bedroom. The restlessness was from not knowing how he was doing without having to look in on his every 5 minutes if I wanted to. The next day we purchased the monitor and I have felt at ease every since. p.s. we felt it was best for our family that Caleb sleep in his crib from night one plus we don't have a lot of room in our bedroom for him to sleep in a bassinet or pack n play. If you disagree with our decision, please keep your opinions to yourself :-)
There you go, 2 weeks in and some of my must-haves as a new mom.
Anyone want to share their must-haves for new moms?

p.s. tomorrow I will be sharing Caleb's nursery

Love that you guys had him in his room on night 1! That's so great. We're kind of debating what we want to do on that front for the first few months. I'm glad to hear it's working for you guys!

Great choices, yes the video monitor is a must have! Especially since you don't want to wake them up when you open their door checking on them! Zippered clothes are great too. Have you seen the gowns that you can get? We used those for bed time. It's even easier to change their diaper in the middle of the night, no zippers, or button, just pull gown up, change pull gown down. If you want I can send you the ones we used for my son, we're done with them. :) Just email me.

awe i'm glad you put him in his crib right away. i plan on doing the same thing. but because of limited space, the crib will still be in our room. so i guess it works out. How do you like that monitor? we still are deciding about which one to get, i want on with wifi access so the husband can view baby when he's overseas.

Aren't zippers so much more convenient? That is usually my baby gift of choice these days.Gowns were awesome too. Does he like to be swaddled? I feel like babes either love it or hate it. Sarah Sterling loved it!

I think we have the same monitor! I love it so much. We waited until Ellie was 7 months old before she went to her room (about 4 months longer than we had originally planned but were waiting for money to buy the monitor) so glad we did cause we are all sleeping much better!!!

I am most definitely bookmarking this for when we go to register in a couple of weeks! And I love, love that I'm not alone with the whole 'baby in his own room from the beginning' thing. The few people that know about it have given me flack, but it's nice to know others do it, too!!!

why aren't all baby one-pieces zippered? i seriously don't understand.

way to go on having him in his room first thing...we put Elyse in our room for the first few nights and NO ONE slept well at all! And then we moved her to her crib and while she of course still wasn't a perfect sleeper, it was so much better!

Have you seen the gowns that have magnets instead of snaps...my SIL has a few and LOVES them!

Hi Meg! Great list. Isn't it crazy how the feeling almost suffocates you when you think of not having them in your life? The emotions of a parent are all over the place. It's so hard to explain to people until you're living through it. IMO good choice having him in his own room. I actually cannot sleep at all when the baby is in our room. Phoenix is still in our room since we only have a two bedroom and he's still waking up at night (we don't want to disturb Mila), but oh how I wait for the day till he can be evicted (kindly) from mom and dad's room. Haha. Hope all is well...I think of you often!

I don't have an opinion on the bassinet vs.crib thing per say, I just wanted to say that I'm happy to hear that people do this. I am due next week and people keep asking me about sleeping arrangements. I keep telling people that we are not planning on having her in our room and getting a lot of flack.
