BevMo VIP Grand Opening

Last week, Sean and I got to attend a VIP wine tasting event the night before the official grand opening of Bevmo's new store opening in Riverside. Kathrin of School.Shop.Sleep graciously drove out to Riverside to attend the event with us as well. After being pregnant and not drinking, going to a wine pairing/tasting event sounded like a perfect date night for Sean and I, plus an opportunity to try some terrific wines.

Riverside's location is Bevmo's 151st store, which is currently only in California, Arizona and Washington. Who knows maybe they will expand to more states in the future. One key promotion Bevmo is known for is their 5 cent wine sale, you buy a bottle of wine and another bottle is only 5 cents, with over 200 bottles to choose from. You says you can't find something for 5 cents nowadays.

Our night began when we were greeted upon our arrival with a glass of Veuve Cliquot to kick start the evening! Headlining this event/VIP grand opening was the Cellar Master of Bevmo, Wilfred Wong with many many years of wine knowledge. Being the cellar master for Bevmo, Wilfred's expertise of wine means he manages the wine rating system at BevMo. Look for his name next time you are in the store and browsing through the wine, check out the number of points Wilfred gives some of the wines.
Mr. Wong himself

Sean, Kathrin and I browsed through the store for a bit, looking at the reds, the wines and the craft beers.

before we were invited to sit down with other bloggers to taste some fabulous wines. I do mean fabulous, we were definitely not drinking cheap wines that is for sure.

We had 6 tastings starting off with a Chandon Etoile Brut Cuvee. We were asked to taste the brut with a piece of popcorn. A bubbly and popcorn are known for being a great combination. Our second tasting of wine was Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc and paired with that was a blue corn chip topped with guacamole, yum! The third sampling was Mer Soleil Chardonnay and accompanied that was some Marcona almonds. This pairing was my favorite of the night. The butteriness of the almonds brought out the butteriness from the chardonnay. Then we moved onto red wines for the rest of the sampling. A glass of Migration Pinot Noir was paired with parmesan cheese, which was another truly excellent pairing. Our second to last tasting was Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon that is recommended to be enjoyed with a grilled ribeye. There was no grilled ribeye unfortunately, but a tasting of roast beef. Finally, the last tasting was a Saldo Zinfandel.

Cheers to a wonderful evening and thank you to Agency Moana and BevMo! for the invite.
* I was compensated for attending this event but my review was completely my honest, authentic opinion.
