What's salty, chewy and chocolately?

Bacon brownies of course!
There is a back story to these bacon brownies Sean and I were watching a food special on food network or the travel channel and the special focused on bacon. Suddenly, Sean blurped out, "I want bacon brownies." The next day while grocery shopping for the week, I picked up a box of brownie mix and bacon. And then I felt that Sean was stealing my weird pregnancy food craving thunder or was my husband really on to something? So I made the brownies and he raved about them. He raved about them so much to a running partner he has, that now the running partner and his wife are curious how do you put bacon and brownies together?
Today I will show you all and really it is easy as pie.
*side note, I buy a brownie box mix. I have never found an outstanding from scratch brownie recipe that produces the same chewiness and crumbly topping as the box mix. There is my one of my baking secrets. Shhh, don't tell anyone that I have been known to buy a box mix, but pretty much all other desserts are scratch made.
First, gather together your ingredients. Bacon and the brownie mix along with the other ingredients needed to make the brownies.

To cook the bacon and make it crisp, cook your bacon in the oven. I oven-cooked my bacon last time I made this recipe, plus your house will smell all bacon-y and who can resist that?
To oven bake your bacon, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil and then arrange the bacon slices on the foil, not overlapping any of the pieces. I use 8-9 pieces of bacon for these brownies. You can use more or less depending on your bacon preference.

Cook the bacon for 15-18 minutes or depending on how crisp you like your bacon, halfway through the baking, remove the bacon strips and flip them over.

Once cooked, remove the bacon from the oven and take the slices off the baking sheet onto a paper towel to soak up some of the grease. Allow the bacon to cool completely. Chop up the bacon into pieces.

Mix up the brownie batter next, following the directions on the back of the box.

Preheat the oven to the temperature according to the direction and the size of pan you use.
Pour half of the brownie batter into your pan then sprinkle half of the chopped bacon.

Pour the remaining batter into the pan and then sprinkle the remaining bacon.

You are more than welcome to sprinkle all the bacon on the top or in the middle, however you like it.
Bake the brownies according to the time on the box. Then allow the brownies to cool, if you can!, before you cut yourself a piece.
I know you aren't sharing these brownies with anyone else, don't worry I won't tell!

You make me wish I ate meat! Bacon is one of those things I miss so, so much since becoming a vegetarian 3 years ago. No matter what they say - soy bacon is NOT the same!
These sound absolutely fantastic - and your pictures are lovely :)

I love both of these things, but I'm very skeptical about putting my faves together. I guess you'll have to bring some over to my house so I can try it.
