I'm a purist!

It is funny how the inspiration for posts hit you. On Wednesday, I received my daily recipe from Fine Cooking and it was a grilled shrimp with feta, watermelon and tomato salad. My initial thought on the recipe? Yuck. Why Because I hate when watermelon gets mixed with anything else but watermelon and that is when the inspiration for today's post hit me, I am a food purist. Are any of you food purist?

Here is my list to better understand me as a food purist:
  • I don't put anything on my hot dogs or sausages, no ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, onions, or kraut. Give me a plain hot dog with nothing on it.
  • Back to the watermelon, I want to eat just plain watermelon in all its juicy glory. Don't give it to me in a salad with feta or balsamic vinegar or mint or whatever, give me a bowlful of watermelon
  • Again with fruit, I like to eat my fruit room temperature, be it peaches, nectarines, or berries, I think fruits taste best when they are room temperature.
  • When going to Chick Fil-a, I don't get any of the sauces. I know you all have looks of shock and horror on your faces right now but I like my spicy chicken sandwich just as it is, the bun, the chicken and the pickles. It tastes great and in my opinion a sauce would just ruin it. For my husband on the other hand, Chick Fil-a is all about the sauces for him.
  • I only recently started dipping my french fries in ketchup, before that I ate them plain.
  • For cheeseburgers, I like the patty, the cheese and pickles and maybe a special sauce you know In-n-Out sauce but leave out the tomato and the lettuce.
  • I don't like to load up my pizza with tons of items, I like it more on the plain side, pepperoni, olives, mushrooms and cheese. Don't ask me to share a supreme or a super loaded pizza with you because I will take off over half of the toppings.
  • If I ever go to Subway, my usual is a 6 inch wheat with turkey, cheese, shredded lettuce, olives, pickles, salt and pepper. That is all, that is my order.
Are you a food purist or do you like lots on your food?
Happy weekend too!

I am not big on sauces either and would NEVER ruin a chickfila sandwich with a sauce of any kind!!

I'm definitely a food purist! I'm not a fan of many condiments. I don't like anything on my Chick-Fil-A sandwich either. I like my cheeseburger plain also. Maybe with just a tiny bit of barbeque sauce.

I agree that recipe sounds yuck... though probably more because i hate raw tomatoes and watermelon, than food purism.

I think I may be more your opposite. There is nothing better than a good homemade dressing or sauce in my opinion!

Oh man, IDK how i'd live without ketchup in my life. I think this is the only thing so far we differ on, twin. :)

When comes to pizza, I usually just get plain cheese. But I need mustard on my hot dog!

Haha! This made me smile! We don't even have Chick-Fil-A here, so I can't relate to that, but I really hate mixing fruit into savory foods. Drives me nuts. I would have had the same reaction to the Watermelon Feta recipe that you had! : )

this post made me smile :) i don't think i'm a purist but just picky with some things like how i don't like my broccoli cooked but raw... things like that. but i think i would've had the same reaction to that recipe!

I am definitely a sauce gal. The more the merrier... on anything.

But I hear you on the pizza... The more simple the better. Pepperoni, Bacon and Bell Pepper for me.

That would be my girls! They were plain jane's as we affectionally called them growing up. They do put a few things on now, but not often!

You don't put the Chick Fil-A sauce on anything?? That stuff is like GOLD. It is so yummy, but SO bad for you hahaha!

And I'm not a fan of fruits being in a salad. YUCK. Especially watermelon with feta and balsamic vinegar. No thanks!

Gah!! Def not a food purist over here! The toppings on a hot dog are what make it for me! But hey different strokes for different folks!

I used to be pretty simple with my food but now I love mixing fruit in with weird things and I'll try anything now!! They say your taste buds change every seven years...I believe this for me. I feel like mine have matured over night! haha!

I am very similar on some of these things!!

We are so similar... Except when I go to Subway, I eat wheat bread/turkey/bacon and I love ketchup on fries. I dip the fries in them though. I can't stand seeing people smother the ketchup on top of them.

I love my dipping sauces... But def agree with you on room temp fruit!!

Well no sauce does save a lot of calories. :) I am definitely not a food purist- except for pizza. In that case, cheese only please!

Love my fruit room temp. I also love sauces. Sigh. Hope you are feeling great, my friend.
