Disappointment...

Over the weekend I experienced another wave of disappointment in this whole job search process. Disappointment is hard, isn't it? However, I have Sean, great friends but most importantly God to pick me up when disappointment comes my way.  In fact He knows the disappointment I will face, He is not surprised by it.
Disappointment is plainly a fact of life. No one will go through life and not experience disappointment at one time or another. Disappointment is hard, it can hurt, it is discouraging and it can leave you with either two options - allow the disappointment to set you back or you can fight through the disappointment to make you stronger.
To help me get through the disappointment I had this weekend, there were several things that helped.
1. Acknowledging what I was feeling - hurt, anger, disappointment, etc. When recognizing the feeling, it is easier to work through the emotions.

2. Seek out God - He wants to help us during the good and the bad, through the triumphs and the tribulations. While sometimes He won't the hurt or disappointment go away, He will use the situation to strengthen our faith in Him and that is the best outcome I can think of through all of this disappointment.

3. Sean and I stuck with our plans to attend church Saturday evening. I could have easily said no I don't feel like going to church, but feeling and knowing what you should do are two very different thoughts.

4. I kept plans with a friend I had made for Saturday night before the disappointing news came. Again, instead of canceling because I didn't feel like going out, I hung out with my friend, realized things weren't too bad, had a lot of laughs by the end of the evening and was grateful for the great friends God has provided me. Nachos and a beer weren't a bad way to help as well.

5. Retail therapy on Sunday afternoon with some friends isn't a bad way either to help sort through my emotions following the disappointment. I mean green jeans, no one can't help but smile at
green jeans :-)

6. Laughing and there is plenty of that in my household. Between my husband's silly jokes and the random silly stuff my dogs do, laughter is a sure fire way to help get over disappointment. I mean is Kimbia really comfortable sleeping like this with her paw hanging down?

By the end of the weekend, while the disappointment still hurt, I knew it wouldn't linger on, that God has another plan and I just have to continue to trust Him through all of this and even when future disappointments come my way, I can read through this list and realize you can get over it.
How was your weekend? Tell me I want to know!

So sorry you had some disappointment girl! I know that's frustrating for you! I will say a quick prayer for you. I forced myself to get up and go to church yesterday morning even though I was so tired, but I'm so glad I did!

Disappointments are tough, especially while you are in the midst of them. But, some day down the road you will realize it was a growth experience and God clearly steering you away from something that wasn't right for you. Love the green jeans by they way! (brought back memories of Captain Kangaroo, LOL)

I wish I could hug you right now! My boyfriend is slightly going through the same feeling as he graduates. There is a great reason and you are going to find that reason why it keeps happening. YOU ARE a wonderful person!

Way to follow through with your plans and keep your head up. I think it's easy to wallow and fall into self pity...it takes strength to look past our own circumstances, engage with others and God. Still praying you find the perfect fit Meg!

I love this post...disappointment is never easy, but I love that you are being proactive in dealing with it (especially about not cancelling plans..because that is what I'm always tempted to do when I'm sad or frustrated with something!).

I can completely relate to this! Disappointment happens to me so often that I'm learning to just expect it. Which is terrible to say :( I say just try to focus on the positives and trust others are going through the same thing!

Keep your chin up girl! Way to hang in there and continue on with your plans. I know it seems like a silly thing to congratulate, but sometimes it's hard to put on a happy face and keep moving forward when you're disappointed. As you said, keep your faith in God and the right opportunity will come at the perfect time!

Oh girl i have literally cried all morning about my job situation. I am just desperate for a job and have one I am really interested in but am not sure if I'll make the cut for interview number two or even get hired. It is so frustrating and hasn't helped our first month of marriage since I am so down about sitting around all day! The first few weeks were fine because I was getting the house settled but now I am readyyyyyyy to get into a routine and find something I love. I wouldn't mind working at Lowes as a cashier (I hear they have a great discount), but I want something I LOVE ya know? What kind of thing are you looking for?

Retail therapy is a wonderful thing. So are those nachos. So are you. :-) Good luck with the job - something will pull through!

First of all beer and nachos are ALWAYS a good way to help with disappointment. Secondly, it is so hard to accept sometimes, but you are right it is all a part of life...ebbs and flows. Kirby and I were just talking about life challenges this past week and sometimes it just feels like you are stuck in a tunnel with no way out. The thing is everyone experiences this at some point. Just as we have highs, we have lows. The lows are good because they make us treasure the highs that much more. Regardless I am sending positive vibes your way in terms of the job search...because everyone needs good energy in their lives no matter what. Thanks for sharing with us Meg! xo

Disappointment is a tough thing to overcome, but I believe your plan of action is the best way to beat it! Good for you for fighting through the struggle and keeping your head up, it's so easy to let it beat you down but you'll definitely be better off by keeping a strong faith and attitude. I just wish that I could give you a job so badly! I know exactly what you're going through and I didn't have near the amount of positivity coming out of my mouth or in my head. God has the perfect job for you and I can't wait to see what it is. MAYBE a baby instead of a job?? WHO KNOWS WHAT GOD HAS PLANNED! ;D

Thinking of you during the job search. I just accepted a job last week and I totally feel your job hunting pain. It's no fun. I am glad things were looking up by the end of the weekend!

It's times like these that God wants to grab our attention and get it focused back on him. With my new job, I'm learning every day that's exactly what God wants from me. There's no way I'd be where I am no without him. I keep praying and looking to him for guidance and discernment.

An ice cold beer and a little retail therapy doesn't hurt either! :)

aww I'm so sorry you had such a crummy Friday and difficult weekend! I completely understand how hard the job search can be - and how down it can make you feel about yourself! I searched and interviewed for 3 months before finally landing the job I have now, so I feel ya!
I think it's great that you have friends and family around you to help in lifting your spirits - and I really do think dogs have a sixth sense about knowing when they should be extra silly/funny when their parents are feeling down. Hope this week has brought you a fresh, new, positive outlook!
