What Do You Get When You Cross Dried Bread with a Food Processor?

You get breadcrumbs of course. In my household, you won't see any pre-made or box of food stuffs. I grew up with a lot of food items homemade and I continue that. Why, because I control what goes into my body and I would prefer to know what I am feeding myself and my husband. Whenever we buy a loaf of bread, we hardly ever finish the loaf before it starts goes stale. So what do I do? I let it go stale and all dried up and then you have a loaf perfect for homemade breadcrumbs.
How do you make homemade breadcrumbs?

Easy enough, right? I just cut the dried bread up into chunks and pulverize them into pieces in the food processor.

Need ideas of how to use breadcrumbs when cooking?

Dip a chicken breast, or strips of chicken or  or a filet of fish in some, flour then eggs and then coat the breast in seasoned breadcrumbs and then cook in the oven!
I made baked chicken stripes for dinner last night. Am I 12 again? Maybe...

Use breadcrumbs when making meatballs or when making a meatloaf.
Sprinkle breadcrumbs in place of croutons on your tomato soup or any other soup.
Put breadcrumbs in your spaghetti dish for an added crunch.
If you are making stuffed peppers, sprinkle some breadcrumbs on top of the filling for some extra texture.
There are many uses for breadcrumbs but do yourself a favor, don't buy a box of breadcrumbs but with that leftover loaf of bread you bought for dinner, make your own breadcrumbs.

I love homemade bread crumbs! It's the only kind I eat too, that and I can't eat store bought because of food allergies. And you're NEVER too old to eat chicken strips (which I'm also allergic to, haha).

Instant bread crumbs, I love it! You're right, you really can add them to any meal. I love breaded chicken, so I say you're never too old for chicken strips. :)

What great ideas!! Thanks for sharing Meg! We let our bread go stale way too often, so I just don't buy it much anymore. Do you ever add spices to your breadcrumbs?

what a neat and easy idea to cut back on processed food that way! I'm sure it would also give the chicken a much more fresher and yummy taste.

We make our own bread crumbs, too, but I don't own a food processor so we just do it in the blender. It works the same, I think!

It takes us forever to finish a loaf off, too, but most of the time the extra bread goes to the chickens. They'll eat anything except celery! :o)

That's a great idea! I love the way you've stored the crumbs too. I'm doing this with any left over bread from now on.

Great idea! And keep up the healthy habits. It's such a shame that Americans are fed junk that we can't even pronounce. Go girl!
