Mr. Henning makes his blog debut!

Today marks a milestone here on the blog, the first post written by Mr. Henning for you all. As I mentioned yesterday, I gave my account of us meeting and our first date and for you enjoyment, here is his version of our meeting and first date.

In the summer of 2008, I decided to go to a Tuesday night young adult service at Christ’s Church of the Valley.  It had been a rough summer for me at that point, and I had recently gone through a rough break up.  I was spending more time at church hoping to bring myself out of my state of depression, and DEFINITELY not looking for a relationship.

When I arrived at the church parking lot to meet my friend, I noticed she was standing outside the doors having a conversation with a few people.  As I approached her, I noticed a very attractive young blonde girl standing in the group.  I introduced myself to her, and she smiled at me and said her name was Megan.  I watched her during the conversation before the church service, and she was very quiet and soft spoken.  I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time, but there was something about her that intrigued me.

Later on after the service, my friend and I walked her to her car and we said our goodbyes.  That was it for a few months.  She went about her life, and I went about mine. In September of 2008, I was leaving a church service as Megan was showing up for the next one.  As we passed by each other, I saw her and said, “Megan, right?”  And she replied, “Yes….Sean, right?”  I asked her how she was doing, she said everything as going well, and we said our goodbyes.  Later on that evening, I noticed a Facebook friend request from a cute blonde girl named Megan Mouch (her maiden name).  I accepted her request, and the next day I had a comment from her.  We began to write each other back and forth over the next few days, mostly small talk.

Eventually, I got a message from Megan that said, “Coffee?”  I thought about it and decided that I like coffee….and this girl is pretty cute.  We decided to meet up at a place called Classic Coffee in Glendora.  I showed up late for my FIRST date with Megan, I had a broken faucet in my kitchen.
I think Meg thinks I made up an excuse, but this was the truth.

I ordered Meg an iced tea and I had an iced coffee, and we sat outside the coffee shop for a few hours, just talking.  We talked about EVERYTHING.  Graduate school, running, coaching, politics, the military, college life, roommates, future goals, etc.  We talked for so long that they closed the coffee shop and made us get out of their chairs!  Meg was wearing a plaid collared shirt and jeans, and I remember thinking that she was a very beautiful young woman with a beautiful smile.

We ended the coffee date there, but I remember thinking that I definitely was interested in getting to know this amazing girl and seeing if I might have a future with her.  It turns out that I did.  That date turned into a second movie date two nights later (Religulous), and a presidential debate a few nights after that.  A month later, we decided to make it official and become a couple.  The rest is history!

Thanks babe for taking over my blog today! It has been a great four years since our first date and I am thankful to be on this journey of life with you.
Just for fun, a few more photos of the first few months of us dating.

Diddy Riese's ice cream sandwiches, ever been?

Not sure what was going on with that hairstyle

Your story sounds so similar to mine! We went out for coffee just to talk as well and I didn't think I would like Alex at all but we talked for over 4 hours!!! The only reason I left was because I had to pick my grandparent's up from the airport (and I was almost late for that!) Such a great story and I like your husband's perspective!

I love hearing the boy's side of the story bc it makes the whole thing sound effortless and not a Taylor Swift range of emotional drama:)

Hi Sean! So fun seeing you on here.Love that you were late for your first date. Is the leaky faucet excuse the same idea for men as the "I have to wash my hair" for women? Haha. So glad you two found each other!

What a sweet story! I love hearing these kinds of things from a man's point of view. Sometimes when my husband and I are asked about our relationship, meeting, etc. I just let him go for it so I can listen to see how he tells the stories!
Thanks for stopping by the blog.
