From My Hometown to Yours - Meghan of Shine On

Ugh is it only Thursday?? Seriously why is this week moving like molasses? So what do I have to make it better? A post about another awesome hometown!

Today we are in the Northwest in a city you might have heard of called Seattle. They have something famous that got started there again you might have heard of it, Starbucks.
So take it away Meghan!

hey y'all! my name is meghan and i blog over at 'shine on: tales of a twenty-something'. like my blog title suggests, i'm a twenty-something living in nashville, tennessee. but wait, i'm not blogging about nashville, because it's not my hometown. so where is my hometown? seattle, washington. yep, the good ol' pacific northwest.

i came across the 'from my hometown to yours' series when a fellow blogger posted about hawaii. i lived in hawaii for two years, so when i commented, meg and i got to talking. i asked/offered to do a piece on seattle, and i was thrilled when meg said yes! so here we go, friends...welcome to my hometown:

i spent twenty-one years in the pacific northwest, specifically in a little city named silverdale. 'the dale' (as i like to refer to it) is an hour ferry ride away from the emerald city. growing up, we frequented seattle for mariners' games, pike place market, broadway productions, and some good ol' fashioned shopping. for those that don't know, seattle is home to a lot of great companies: starbucks, fran's chocolates, & nordstrom to name a few.

we also are home to the space needle, the infamous gum wall, and EMP (experience music project).

like i mentioned above, when my family would spend the day in seattle, we would get there via the ferry (or as grey's anatomy likes to put it, ferry boats). ferries are such a fun way of transportation - it's a 30min. ride from bainbridge island to seattle, and it's a great place to people watch.

that gentleman wasn't very happy that i was snapping photos - oops!

when you visit seattle, i highly suggest you eat at elliott's. it is a great restaurant right on the water, and they are known for their yummy oysters! while it is a bit pricey, it's completely worth it and totally fits into the pacific northwest/seattle experience.

this is also the delish wedge salad they serve - looks at those chunks of bleu cheese!

here are some fun pictures of pike place market. the market is a wonderful place right downtown that houses a lot of local companies - everything from flowers, to fruits & veggies; jewelry to decor. the market really has everything. some things i suggest? fresh flowers, jellies, & the fish market.

here's a little video of the fish-throwing. they don't do it anymore, unfortunately, but they still have a ball and engage the crowd.

during the holidays, pacific place, a premiere seattle shopping area, decorates with nutcrackers. pacific place hosts stores like michael kors, tiffany & co., william-sonoma, a movie theater, delicious restaurants, and a sky-bridge to nordstrom. our personal favorite growing up was gordon biersch - best garlic fries ever.

while in seattle, make sure to catch a ball game (seahawks or mariners) or a broadway production. seattle is also hosting the previews for new york-bound shows. my family was able to see the preview for young frankenstein before it hit broadway. we've also seen many-a-show in seattle, including jersey boys, phantom of the opera, and mamma mia! (among many, many more). tickets to both games & shows are very reasonable, and totally worth it.

top-left: qwest field (go hawks!), top-right: paramount theater
bottom-left: 5th avenue theater, bottom-right: safeco field (go m's!)

last, but certainly not least, don't forget an umbrella. while it doesn't rain as much as the media likes to say it does, it's still better to be safe than wet & cold. you can find some super cute umbrellas here.

i hope you enjoyed a peek into the emerald city. this post barely scraped the surface of this wonderful city, so i hope you all get a chance to experience sea-town at least once in your life.  although, as a warning, once you go, you'll want to go back...it's an addicting & wonderful city.

so friends, if you've been to seattle,
what's been your favorite place/thing to do?

don't forget to come on over to my blog and say hey! i love 'meeting' new bloggy friends, and checking out fun, new blogs!
