My Husband Is Awesome...

...because he builds us ottomans for our living room.

So after the under the surface type of post yesterday, I feel kinda silly posting today about something so materialistic. I feel like I should have taken a bit of a break but figuring out how to balance my daily needs versus wants is a work on progress.

Here is the story behind the ottomans, it was the day before I was leaving for Tucson over two weeks ago. We headed for a quick trip to Target for a few items and Sean wonders over to the home decor area. He pulls out an ottoman and promptly sits on it. It was cute and all but I wasn't wowed.

All week long then when I was in Tucson, he kept saying I'm going to build up ottomans. Hearing from him as I was heading back to California that he was at Lowe's for wood, I knew he was on a mission. So immediately after picking me up from the airport, he drove us straight over to Jo-Ann's to look for foam and fabric.

When Sean gets excited about a project, there is no stopping him, he all about that project until it is completed, he won't rest until the last nail has been pounded in, which is a great thing because I know he will be completing any project he starts shortly.

The ottomans he made has a lid on both so we can store stuff inside them and with plenty of padding they are very comfortable to sit on.

He did a great job on the ottomans and I'm appreciative of his desire to build projects for our home.

Oh Pinteresting Wednesday - Pallet Couch

Today is the FINAL day to enter my SkincareRx giveaway for a $20 giftcard.
Maybe some of you feel this way but when I am feeling a little bit bored either because of my routine, or just my life in general, I will change up something in my house to give me the feeling of newness and to help take some of the edge of boredom off. I am in that phase right now of changing things around in my house, cleaning up a lot, re-arranging and just giving me that feeling of newness. My latest project has been taking one of the three couches we have in our living room up to the office to provide more seating in that room. My idea is then to while Sean is working or doing homework for his Masters program, that I could sit on the couch and blog there. Therefore, taking my laptop out of the bedroom and leaving that room for one more of entertainment ;-)

In place of the third couch, which has left the living room looking rather empty or giving the impression we are moving, I want to make a pallet couch. We still have a few pallets leftover from when Sean made the wine rack (see post here).

Happy Wednesday all!!

Ok I have decided that I will do a weekly episode recap of Emily's season as the Bachelorette number 1 because I know I will be watching every episode, number 2 because deep down I think she is really a sweet girl and I want her to find a true love and number 3 because I want to discuss her fashions. This blog will be an outlet for my thoughts on the Bachelorette because frankly when I want to discuss it with my husband, I just get the rolling of the eyes and the "oh, brother" statements.

Last week while perusing Pinterest as I normally do, trying to figure out what to make for dinner or how to style an outfit for work the next day, I came across these, fabric covered pots. I thought that is so cute and I could pick up whatever fabric I want to match the decor in my living room. And with Sean gone for a few days last week, I had some extra time for a little Pinterest project. Well I didn't get to doing this project until Sunday afternoon, after he had returned home, but it takes very little time to do this project anyways.

For this project you need some pots, I found mine at Joanna's, glue (I used modge podge), fabric (enough to cover the entire pot), and a sponge brush (to paint the glue onto the pot).

I covered 2 small pots and 1 medium-sized pot. What is nice at Joanna's, if there are fabric squares to purchase as is, they are pre-cut, and they have plenty of variety of color and print for you to pick up. Plus, before you go to there or any other craft store like Michaels, or Hobby Lobby print out or pull up their 40% off coupon on your handy dandy smart phone or iPhone. I have not crossed over into that fancy cellphone culture yet.

In total, the two small pots cost me 99 cents each, the larger pot was $1.99, the modge podge was a whopping $4.99, the sponge brush was 50 cents and then three fabric squares I bought were I think $1.99. So in all, this project with the three pots was relatively cheap at $16 including tax.

To cover the pots, make sure the amount of fabric you have will cover the pot first. Then start painting some glue onto the pot and lay the fabric onto the glue and firmly press the fabric down.

Let the glue dry a little bit to give the fabric a firm hold to the pot. Then continue to paint the glue onto the pot and lay the fabric down. I ran my fingers over the fabric once it was laid down onto the glue so creases won't form. Don't glue the fabric over the edge of the pot yet, wait to do that until later.

Once the pot is completely covered in the fabric, now you are ready to glue down the fabric over the edges. First, cut slits into the fabric but just until the rim of the pot. This will insure that no creases or bubbles will be formed when the fabric is laid over the edge. Paint the rim of the pot with glue and then smooth the fabric over the rim. Repeat the same with the bottom, then let the pot dry completely before you decorate your living room or wherever you will place these pots!

Pallet Turned Wine Rack

My husband is so nice and knows me so well. A few weeks ago, after he came back from a run and asked if I wanted a pallet or two. He probably didn't see my palette board on Pinterest but he knows that I love re-purposing items. Like last year, he brought home a planter box that someone was getting rid of, he brought it home for me and helped me paint it and plant some flowers.

Anyways he suggested turning the pallet into a wine rack that we screwed into the wall. Right now all of our wine is on one shelf of our pantry and we have only one pantry. Putting the wine in the rack frees up one shelf of the pantry plus the wine rack looks super cool.
