It is all going to be ok...

*thank you to everyone who has voted for me in the boot styling contest already, I really appreciate it. You have until this Friday to vote and by voting you get the chance to win the same boots I am wearing. Pop over here and vote for me, thank you.

Yesterday was a bit of a sad day for me.
For the first time since 1978, my boss, who is a Member of Congress, was not on an election ballot. He is retiring from Congress after this current term and with him retiring that means I am out a job when the term ends. That means out of a job next month, only two paychecks left. I have worked for him for almost 7 years.
Since his announcement, I have been job searching, sending out resumes, asking people for any jobs leads. God has provided a few interviews but no job offer yet.
The other morning I had Pandora playing on my Kindle and a song come on with these lyrics.

The title of the song is You'll Come:
My rock and Redeemer shall not be moved,
I'll wait upon you Lord.
As surely as the sun will rise
As certain as the dawn appears...

We are not shaken, we are not moved
We wait upon you Lord.
Our Mighty deliverer, triumph and truth.
I'll wait upon you Lord.

It was perfect timing when I was listening to the song because I checked my email and received yet another email stating, "thank you for the interview but we have decided to go with a stronger candidate"... some of you might have received those emails or letters before.
Every time I receive an email like that, I have two choices, I can either be thankful or I can be angry I didn't get the job. This time because I was praising Him in song, I responded with thanksgiving.

I admit that I haven't always responded with that attitude but it is a choice. I choose to either thank Him for the opportunities He has provided or I can respond with disappointment that I wasn't the best candidate for the job.

Regardless of if I am offered a job by the time my current job ends or if I have to file for unemployment, it is my duty to trust God in whatever situation He brings my way.
That is why today, I continue to resolve to wait upon you Lord. Ill wait upon the Lord, as surely as the sun will rise and as certain as the dawn appears. Everyone on this earth is not guaranteed even tomorrow, so I must make the best of the today that I have been given. And today, I resolve to continue to trust God as I have been throughout this whole situation and continue to every single day of my life.

I am not perfect, He is. I am not in control, He is. That is the biggest lesson He is teaching me right now through this job situation. He is always completely in control and even when I think I am even the tiniest bit in control, He does something to quickly make me realize I am never ever in control. And that is how it should be!

Meg, praying for you! You are right to move beyond the disappointments, as God knew those positions were not right for you. We don't always see it or agree with it, but HE is in control, HE mapped out our future even before we were born. HE will see us through, if only we trust in HIM, and give it all over to HIM. And, I love that quote...He most definitely is bigger than anything we will face.

I really admire you for having such a positive outlook and putting your faith in God. I know how scary it can be to be in-between jobs, but I'm sure you'll find something amazing and when it happens the timing will be perfect! Good luck... will be thinking and praying for you :)

God has everything in control and he has a plan for you! I know how it feels to be between jobs and worried about where the next paycheck is coming from. But then, a friend came through and offered me a job. I was there for 6 months then an awesome opportunity came along after that. And that's where I am now. :)

God will provide.

Love you, sweet friend! xo

This post really made me want to cry at first Meg! I've been working 3 part time jobs just wanting a real job! You should check out the song "One Thing Remains" by Jesus Culture. It rocks at times like these too!

"Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant in the trial and the change
One thing... Remains"

I'm sorry about your job. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity you had there though and with all of that experience, I bet you will find a job relatively quick. I have been on unemployment before and it's not so bad. You have so much time to job search so if it does come to that, it will be a good time to focus!

Meg I love your positive message! We do have a choice to either get mad or to be thankful through difficult circumstances. Sometimes this is something I still struggle with... but it's amazing how perfect God's timing is. Praying for you!

So true and what a great message. God has better plans for you than you could imagine, I'm sure!

It's going to work out for you. I am in the same boat to an extent. I am desperate for change so, I guess I am being a little greedy in that I have a job, but want something different. Guess I should be glad of where I am and know that I have been placed here for a reason. Keep the faith!!

Such a wonderful thought for today!! He is in control and he has a plan for you in the coming months. Do you know Jeremiah 29:11? It's one of my favourite verses :) xo

Thanks for sharing, even though it may not be the easiest to. I have been playing that song on repeat for a few months now, it has really encouraged me. I believe that you will find the perfect job and even if it isn't in your own timing, God is faithful and He knows the perfect job for you!

Hi Meg. I know that you will find something. Absolutely. Regardless, I am sending positive vibes and honestly I'll keep my ears and eyes open for you as well. Are you still looking to work in the political field?

Becca said...

The Lord delights in your attitude, I know! Keep singing His praises. At the end of your life, that is what you want to remember and know that you did faithfully.

Jobs are so stressful! When you have them, when you don't, making any sort of decision about them is hard. Especially when that decision is made for you by circumstances out of your control... you are keeping good perspective. God is always in control and it's so good to learn to praise Him in any circumstance!

Sam Morgan said...

Searching for a job is so hard! It's hard to take that much rejection. What a good reminder to praise god and be thankful that you have a job for now. That's something I need to work on also. Maybe you can get a job with the incoming congressman?

I'm sorry to hear that! A trying time no doubt but certainly not something you can't handle (your writing skills alone show me your capabilities). I think it's amazing and great that you have that experience. Ending of a chapter but still a pageturner :)

Meg, you are awesome! What an amazing perspective to have during such a frustrating time! Love those lyrics (and Pandora). Isn't it refreshing when God places a song in your playlist just to remind you that He is Lord, you are His precious child and He loves when we cling to Him instead of ourselves? I will certainly be praying for you during your continued job search!

What beautiful words. You are truly an inspiration! It is wonderful that you have God to help you through this time. I do hope his will is spelled out for you soon!

Meg I am sorry that you are in that place. you are so wise though. when you say you have two choices when you got that email you are so right. I'm learning that when we go through trials we have a choice to either draw away from God or draw near to him. and the things that he can teach us and the way he can love us when we draw near to him are such a blessing. praying for those blessings for you!

I worry a lot, and yesterday I was reading Matthew and I came across the verse that talked about not worrying about tomorrow because tomorrow has enough worries of its own. I'm sure you'll be fine even though it might not seem like it right now!

aw, amen. praise God for His faithfulness and that He cares for us and knows us down to the number of hairs on our heads. he is surely working together all things for good (rom 8:28). i am encouraged by your trust in the Savior!

What a fantastic attitude. I had to do much the same thing when I was job searching. I was pretty much unemployed for a year and a half. Finally, I got a job offer. I took it and, thus far, I really enjoy it! (Granted, this is only my second week here.) I, too, am working in government! I'm an editorial assistant for the legislative services agency of Indiana. So I get to read and edit all of the bills that the legislators are doing. It's interesting. And, as you know, confidential. :) I do hope you'll be able to get a job soon! I know how devastating it can be to go without one! But as long as you stay positive and trust that He will hand you something (and He will), you'll be just fine!

Meg, I can totally relate to your situation (my husband and I both can), but isn't such a wonderful, peaceful feeling knowing you don't have to be in control-that God has it ALL under control and a wonderful plan for you? We are facing the same things right now but have totally surrendered to Him. We continue to pray and wake up every morning knowing the answer to our prayers is right around the corner. I'll be praying for you and believing that perfect job for you is coming soon.
